BREAKING: US Embassy Staff ordered our of Iraq due to tensions with IRan

The US embassy in Iraq says the state department has ordered all non-emergency government staff to leave the country immediately.

The move comes amid escalating tensions with Iran, after Washington last week said it had detected new and urgent threats from the country.

The US State Department ordered the pullout of employees from both the embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil, the embassy said in a statement.

It said Iran and its proxy forces in the region were targeting its citizens and American interests.

On Sunday, the embassy advised Americans to avoid travel to Iraq, citing "heightened tensions".

Event: The U.S. State Department has ordered the departure of non-emergency U.S. Government employees from Iraq, both at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the U.S. Consulate in Erbil. Normal visa services at both posts will be temporarily suspended. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq.

If those behind closed doors were 100% set on an offensive measure, ALL staff would be pulled, with little to no announcement of it.

Iraqi government to buy Russian S-400 missile system

Baghdad (IraqiNews) The Iraqi Ambassador to Moscow, Haidar Mansour Hady, announced on Wednesday, that the Iraqi government decided to purchase the Russian S-400 missile system.

Hady said in a press statement that the Iraqi government has made a decision to purchase Russia’s S-400 missiles defense systems

Earlier this month, former Head of the Security and Parliamentary Defense Committee, Hakim Zamili, revealed that negotiations are taking place between the Iraqi and Russian governments, to equip Baghdad with the Russian S-400 missile system.

According to CNBC, at least 13 countries have expressed interest in buying a Russian missile system, despite the potential for triggering U.S. sanctions, according to people with first-hand knowledge of a U.S. intelligence assessment.

The top British general in the US-led coalition against Isis has said there is no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq or Syria, directly contradicting US assertions used to justify a military buildup in the region.

Hours later however, his assessment was disowned by US Central Command in an extraordinary rebuke of an allied senior officer. A spokesman insisted that the troops in Iraq and Syria were on a high level of alert due to the alleged Iranian threat.

Maj Gen Christopher Ghika, who is a deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the coalition conducting counter-terrorist operations against Isis in Iraq and Syria, was repeatedly questioned by reporters about the threat from Shia militias in Syria and Iraq, cited by US officials over the past week as justification for speeding up the deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group in the Gulf and for sending B-52 Stratofortress bombers and an anti-aircraft battery to the region.

“No – there’s been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria,” Ghika said in a videolink briefing from Baghdad to the Pentagon. “We’re aware of that presence, clearly. And we monitor them along with a whole range of others because that’s the environment we’re in.
