There would have been no development, no modernization. But because your part of the world had some exploitable resource, it was traded for temporary economic advantage, running water and electricity. You make the inference that we are somehow the "pest" when the truth of the matter is that your people are still some of the most maladjusted, uncivilized humans on the planet. Go ahead. Pick ANY Latin American country and do a side by side statistical analysis of GDP, life expectancy, annual income, percentage of population which is educated, crime rates, etc. with the US. It's not even close Bro. Furthermore, if we are the pest and our society is so awful, why in the hell are MILLIONS of you "cock-a-roaches" coming here? It would seem that you wouldn't want to share a space with those who you call a "pest".
Our forefathers left Europe for opportunities (probably the same as the folks currently coming). But what separates our immigration from yours is that an overwhelming majority of those coming had NO intention of becoming a burden to society. They didn't ask for handouts or assistance or EXPECT to be taken care of. In fact, the government didn't provide any sort of financial assistance to ANY of our forefathers who came. No housing, no food stamps, no medical treatment, etc. They scraped for everything they got. Furthermore, they intended to assimilate, to become part of the American experience. Unlike your Latin American brethren, they learned the language, embraced the culture and became a part of the most productive society in modern history.
I don't think any American opposes legal immigration. I believe that most Americans relate to those who are coming here to try and make a better life for themselves and for their families. But for those who "hop a border", who intend on subverting the system, not assimilating and expecting to be somehow treated as every other CITIZEN here is treated, well, FUCK OFF.
I can tell you what is going to happen. When the people in this country arrive at the conclusion that the government is NOT going to solve the problem (or is unwilling) and the number of those who are subverting the law and taking advantage of the American taxpayers continues to grow unchecked and out of control, the American people will attempt to solve the problem themselves. That means civil unrest and vigilanteism. Americans will take enforcing the law and protecting their families into their own hands. I'm not sure you are really prepared for what that looks like for ANY group of people. But keep it up with that less than grateful attitude. Just be sure to voice it OUT LOUD and IN PUBLIC (not on an internet chat board) and see what response you get. Unless you are Tony Montana (and we all know that you're not), I think you're probably gonna get the beatdown from some white, American "gringo".
