Sugar free peppermints help too. What helped me the most was exercise. After you work out for a good 30 minutes, the last thing you want to do is smoke. so start turn on music and dance around the house...you'll end up not only being a non-smoker, but you'll be in great shape too. |

Lady Jayne Smith Forum Administrator 05/15/2019 03:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Seriously, I smoked as an undergraduate. I quit cold turkey after graduation. Confined myself to my apartment for 3 days -- had my food ready, and did not answer the phone or door during that time. After 3 days, the nicotine is gone from your body, and you only have to break the habit of holding the cigarette. The difference between a smoker and a former smoker is that one controls the cigarette, the other the cigarette controls them. It is a mindset. ETA: You will always be addicted. The smell of smoke will trigger your addiction, but your self-control will stop you from picking up the cigarette -- YOU now control the cigarette. MTL - mouth to lung, as opposed to the direct lung gizmos that the man bun types use. Probably want to use a strong niccotine salt liquid (50mg) rather than VG liquids. Anonymous Coward User ID: 73081248 United States 05/15/2019 04:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Here is what did it for me, i found a good hypnotist. I think his name was Gary Woods. (30 years ago) It was several tools altogether. He made the point: every time you say do not smoke, the words do and smoke are still in the thought pattern, like saying dont think of a pink elephant. Now you're thinking of the pink elephant. We have to replace, not deny the habit. Visualization, during relaxation. You want to visualize, (in my case it was building muscle, being able to run/jog, etc, climbing a mountain and taking a deep breath at the summit, etc. Looking and feeling better. He also somehow instilled a habit in me during the hyp session to always take a deep breath, whenever i hear the word breathe, or see it, or think of it. Weird, i know, but has always been noticeable ever since. Relaxation. Smoking as a habit, is a stress reaction, which then causes more stress, so it is then felt like a need, so becomes circular. The relaxation technique was, throughout the day, as often as you can, take a deep breath, let it out. Take a second deep breath, hold a few seconds, and as you slowly exhale, examine each muscle and allow all to go completely limp. You're also visualizing at this time. You do this when you get in the car, at your desk, in the car when you get home, all as often as you can. Drink as much water and or orange juice and take vit c to flush all of it out. When you have any kind of stress, or thoughts of smoking that catch you by surprise, you want to create an "invisible" response, in my case it was putting 3 fingers together, and taking several deep breathes until it passes. Sounds like a lot, i guess he recognized i had a bad case. Started smoking at age 7. Smoked 35 years. Hypnosis is not hocus pocus, you are just being willing to relax, while positive suggestions are made, always conscious, and taking in a positive message. Its been 30 years, i rarely think about it. |
