I read that Nicotine not only activates your acetylcholine receptors, it also activates your glutamate and opioid receptors. It also messes with your blood sugar somehow which also contributes to the addiction.
Some people think that the mao inhibitors in the cigarettes contribute to the addiction but I don't think so.
