The original Roe v. Wade and gay marriage are perfect examples. If we had not pushed on Roe but instead let the state medical boards handle license removal and/or discipline we would not have abortion on demand and a billion dead babies today. We allowed them (by mere opportunity) to reinterpret the right to privacy in the constitution. Same with gay marriage. In the 90's conservatives opposed civil unions (which frankly IS a fundamental CIVIL right that should be recognized considering it harms no one but the individuals). So they fought back harder and won gay marriage (frankly a fundamental religious right even if one has no religion) and now we have gay adoption to boot. Maybe this is what Robertson is thinking when he says it's too far. Maybe he sees it going to SCOTUS and instead of overriding Roe the opposition gets an even tighter stranglehold on the right to murder. He is saying it is right to kill a baby if the father is not a good person or if the baby was conceived in a bad act. Well, all acts of sex outside marriage are bad. Plenty of babies are killed because the woman doesn’t really like the father. He may just be a one night stand. Pat doesn’t really understand the logic of why all abortion is wrong. He has no firm ideological position for being against any abortion. Also, if abortion is wrong the it is right to punish all involved, including the mother. The idea that child murderers should escape justice is bizarre. That said, I do absolutely understand that women who carry children to term as the result of rape might suffer mentally. I have great sympathy for that. But killing the child isn’t a solution. |

And because it has no rape or incest provision SCOTUS will overturn it and by defacto provision make Roe v Wade based law even stronger and more fundamental. If the goal is overturning Roe v Wade this law does the opposite. Maybe he's right. Not morally right, but politically right.
