SAT to Give Students ‘Adversity Score’ to Capture Social and Economic Background

How in the world do you

(a) create a formula to determine how much “adversity” a 17-year-old has faced,

(b) using only school-level and neighborhood-level data, not personal data, and then

(c) hide the formula’s results from the kid?

I find this troubling on so many levels. We are moving farther and farther away from objective merit.

The SAT is basically giving students “demerit points” for coming from stable homes & safe neighborhoods.

Basically the SAT is probably gonna penalize you if you’re:

Male
White/Asian
Straight
Rich
Christian

And reward you if you’re

Trans
Gay
Female/Non-binary
Poor
Minority
Atheist/Muslim

But you’re never gonna know be they won’t tell how they calculate their “adversity score.”

Something tells me the purpose of this will be to combat the so called white privilege.

All of this is going to get much worse.

Not to mention this can be gamed to the max, won’t all people claim they live in the ghetto, are gay, trans, etc., just to get a higher adversity score?

Crap like this has an already long and storied history. In the Army promotion game, we were told that "we don't have quotas; we have diversity goals."

A buddy of mine enlisted, and resigned, during the Obama years because, "You don't get promoted unless you're some kind of weirdo." By the time he left the ANG, his base commander was a black lesbian, and everyone on base knew it was a joke. There were dozens of people more qualified than she to run the operation.

It’s been going on for years, now they just made it official


The first year drop out rate will sky rocket when these kids can’t make the grade

more skullduggery to remove whites from the institutions their ancestors created.

Yes adversity can negatively impact grades and learning but that doesn't mean the student should be admitted over someone with better grades who happened to have the good fortune of living in affluent circumstances. The poor person with the poorer grades will most likely be far behind their peers academically and the poor person will struggle to keep up with their more privileged peers at elite schools. Yes it is unfair but so is putting students who are not academically prepared into elite schools where standards are higher. What ends up happening is the poor person drops out because it will take years to catch up academically and university is not the place for students reading at grade 8 level no matter if they are poor and black.

"adversity score " = Preferences/Quotas, already deemed unconstitutional by the courts.

Tom Sowell used to rail on that issue. It makes no sense to put some kid who would do just fine at UC-Santa Cruz in at Stanford as an affirmative action student, just to ease Stanford's admissions board's troubled soul. You're setting that kid up to fail and it's not fair to him or the the kid who should have gotten in to Stanford in his place. This is why they create Minorty/Gender Studies programs, to make it easier to bury what would otherwise be total failure of the affirmative action system.

I'm shocked the commies still insist on using SATs and ACTs, they're mentally unhealthy for the snowflakes. What if they don't score well? Why not just let everyone go to post secondary where ever they feel like they should go regardless of grades and without test scores?

SATS and ACTS have no bearing now on admittance, all that matters is your adversity score

Meanwhile in Russia and China the most qualified gets the job. Which kind wins wars? In the British Empire and all throughout the History of Western Civilization there tons of gay rulers and generals who climbed the ranks through merit.

This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

I went to High School with kids who came from disadvantaged homes and some of them were super bright and went on to get really great scholarships based on scholastic merit and ACT/SAT scores. Their merit wasn't based on their disadvantage, it was based on their ability to overcome adversity and still succeed.
