joinca User ID: 76969754 United States 06/21/2019 12:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | @B_Carp01 That is a NASTY bowing segment coming through Iowa and western Illinois early tomorrow afternoon. Expect this to be severe with damaging winds, large hail, and heavy downpours. Additional storms follow, too, with an isolated #tornado threat. Anonymous Coward User ID: 76463416 Portugal 06/21/2019 06:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 422 AM EDT Fri Jun 21 2019 .DISCUSSION... ...Low Rain Chances will Produce Hot Temperatures Through the Weekend... Today...Mid level ridge will build over the Bahamas and Straits of FL while the low level ridge remains to our south. This will produce deep layer westerly flow across EC FL resulting in a delayed/negated sea breeze and hot temperatures even at the coast. The sea breeze will develop first along the Martin coast early this afternoon and eventually reach the Brevard coast late in the day. But the sea breeze will remain pinned to the coastal counties due to the opposing west flow. Widespread max temps in the mid 90s expected across the area (interior and coast), except lower 90s Martin coast where the sea breeze should form first closer to the ridge axis. With dewpoints in the lower to mid 70s, expect peak heat indices near 105. GOES-16 derived precipitable water product shows a band of higher moisture across north FL. This is assocd with moisture convergence typically found on the north side of ridge axes. There is also some weak vorticity left behind after a shortwave trough passed by to the north. This band of moisture should produce scattered showers/storms just north of our area by mid day. Steering flow has veered slightly from yesterday and is now W/NW which should bring at least isolated convection into our northern sections this afternoon. So have maintained 30 PoP for Volusia county and 20 PoP as far south as Orlando/Cape. No rain/storms expected south of Orlando. Dry air aloft will promote gusty winds in any convection. Tonight...Diurnal convection should end quickly with loss of daytime heating so will not advertise any rain chances after 8 pm. Evening temps slowly falling back through 80s. Weekend...By early Saturday, deep ridging settles near the FL peninsula, continuing westerly flow across the area. With higher moisture pulling across the Atlantic waters, drier air sinks in on Saturday, leading to only a slight chance for shower and thunderstorm development for areas north of the Cape. W/NW flow will once again limit the east coast sea breeze, pinning it to the northern coast with only a slight penetration inland for southern zones. Sunday appears to be the wetter of the two weekend days, with chc PoPs returning as passing shortwaves to the north work to weaken the ridge. Again, the west sea breeze will dominate in the afternoon, leading to shower/storm development mainly west of Orlando, but still only a 30-40% coverage along the coast. The combination of westerly flow, a drier airmass and limited precip will lead to an excessive heat concern this weekend. Afternoon highs climb to the low/mid 90s (highest values at coastal locations), as little influence from the sea breeze or rain-cooled air sends heat index readings toward 105F. Highs will approach record values, with Sunday appearing as the most likely opportunity as previous records for MLB/VRB/FPR are only in the mid 90s. Nighttime will provide heat relief, with near normal lows expected in the mid 70s. Next Week...Ridge over the GOMEX will continue the weakening trend early next week as a mid/upper low pushes south across the coastal Carolinas. Slightly higher moisture returns to FL, leading to steadily increasing rain chances each day through the end of the week. Westerly sfc winds become variable through the period, allowing for sea breeze development to become the driving force of afternoon convection. Highs return to just a couple degrees above normal in the low 90s with lows persisting in the mid 70s. |
