Country House "developed a little bit of a cough" while at Churchill Downs. He said his champion Thoroughbred was "not seriously sick" at the time but was "coughing" and required blood testing.
As a result, the horse was removed from the Preakness.

Would have made it more fun with Country House in the race no doubt.

Horse Racing has always been a shady business. Lots of trainers who abuse animals. Lots of trainers in debt. Owners don't always see what goes on behind the scenes.

Wondering if the 4 front runners in the Derby are being withheld for safety reasons?

Maximum Security, who was eventually disqualified, will be held out at the Preakness Stakes because of ABRASIONS SUSTAINED during his infamous run at Churchill Downs
from being assaulted from behind and finally moving out of the way.

Kelso is also almost a stablemate or would have been if he were still alive

Kelso was an incredible athlete

the fourth most important racehorse ever, after Man o War, Secretariat, and Citation.

and he was a gelding! could never be bred

yet of him was said:

In the end, there are probably a thousand words or more that can describe the greatness Kelso brought with him to the track. Yet the legendary Daily Racing Form columnist Joe Hirsch said it best about the grand gelding when he wrote a single sentence about him.

It read, “Once upon a time there was a horse named Kelso … but only once.”

forging is very common, that is the term when a horse's hind hooves hit the forehand hooves
this is of course not exactly forging

I have to go with Warriors Charge since my horse was named Charger and a direct descendant of Man-O-War. Love these running horses. So much heart.

Re: The Torchie Interferes in the Preakness Day thread!
Torchie, in the video of Secretariat winning, he starts on the outside and is last, moves his way up, and by the end of the race he's on the rail. Isn't that the same thing that they were all meeping about with the Derby? That the horse that won "didn't stay in his lane"? So they disqualified him? I always thought that was the whole point, to try to get to the rail because it was shorter.
