Horse Racing has always been a shady business. Lots of trainers who abuse animals. Lots of trainers in debt. Owners don't always see what goes on behind the scenes.

Wondering if the 4 front runners in the Derby are being withheld for safety reasons?

the fourth most important racehorse ever, after Man o War, Secretariat, and Citation.

forging is very common, that is the term when a horse's hind hooves hit the forehand hooves
this is of course not exactly forging

I have to go with Warriors Charge since my horse was named Charger and a direct descendant of Man-O-War. Love these running horses. So much heart.

Laughing Fox has slanted eyes, adorable.

"Ira “Babe” Hanford, who won the 1936 Kentucky Derby aboard Bold Venture, died Nov. 21 (2009) in Ocala, Fla. after a lengthy illness. He was 91. Hanford was the oldest living Kentucky Derby-winning jockey and was the first apprentice to capture the Run for the Roses."

He was a friend of mine.

From him I got a clear look behind the scenes of horseracing. The nitty gritty parts of the paddocks, the desperation, the sweet victories, the business end. And the Budweiser Clydesdales would always come to visit. HUGE.

I do not race, but I know: there are people who live their entire lives on racetracks, going from one meet to another, never needing to leave the backstretch world

Torchie, in the video of Secretariat winning, he starts on the outside and is last, moves his way up, and by the end of the race he's on the rail. Isn't that the same thing that they were all meeping about with the Derby? That the horse that won "didn't stay in his lane"? So they disqualified him? I always thought that was the whole point, to try to get to the rail because it was shorter.
