Re: Cops draw guns on black man picking up trash on his property
COPS DIDN'T GET THAT WAY OVERNIGHT, IT'S BEEN A VERY, VERY LONG PROCESS OF BLACKS ALWAYS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH ANY KIND OF AUTHORITY. EVERY INTERACTION WITH ANY WHITE PERSON IS CAUSE FOR DRAMA, WITH COPS THEY JUST WILL NOT BEHAVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, THERE HAS TO BE A LONG DRAWN OUT PERIOD OF ESCALATING TENSIONS.

NOW FOR THE COPS TO NOT BE ABLE TO READ THAT SITUATION FOR WHAT IT WAS (AND WHY EXACTLY WAS THEIR GARBAGE ALL AROUND HIS HOUSE? THAT PART SEEMED ODD CONSIDERING THE LOOK OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET. IT LOOKED MIDDLE CLASS NOT THE CENTER OF THE CITY, SO WHY ALL THE GARBAGE?)IS INDICATIVE OF SHITTING TRAINING. IT LOOKED LIKE THEY WANTED A CONFRONTATION TO SHOW THE GUY WHO WAS BOSS AND IN THE END, GUESS WHAT? THE GUYS WITH GUNS ARE. SO WHY GET INTO A PISSING CONTEST? I'M AN OLDER WHITE GUY WHO DOESN'T HAVE MUCH IN COMMON WITH THE GOVERNMENT OR THE WAY THEY OPERATE, BUT IF A COP ASKS ME TO COMPLY WITH SOMETHING, I HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO JUST GO AHEAD AND DO IT, NOT FLY INTO A RAGE ABOUT THE INJUSTICE OF IT. BLACKS DON'T SEEM TO HAVE THAT CAPACITY TO JUST SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH IT FOR THE FEW MINUTES IT TAKES. IT'S LIKE THEY WANT TO GET SHOT IN THESE VIDEOS.

THERE'S NO ANSWER HERE. LIKE JEFFERSON SAID, THE TWO RACES EQUALLY FREE CANNOT LIVE IN THE SAME GOVERNMENT TOGETHER AND THIS IS PROOF OF THAT.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76531980

Low class idiots don’t speak for everyone. Every race has bad apples. Some are on display more than others. Why do you think sites like world star and thegudda exist? To display the low class but a million more good black people exist. It depends on who you surround yourself with.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76784946

IKAGO, I GET IT. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE RATIOS OF 'GOOD BLACK PEOPLE' AND THE AVERAGE. ON AVERAGE THEY SIMPLY DO NOT COMPORT TO THE STANDARDS OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION. WHEN THE MAJORITY OF INTERACTIONS WITH A PARTICULAR GROUP RESULT IN SOME FORM OF CONFLICT OR AGGRAVATION, THE STANDARDS DROP FOR EVERYONE. FORCING AN ENTIRE CULTURE TO EITHER SUBMIT TO THE STANDARDS OF ANOTHER (BLACKS TO WHITE) OR TO LOWER THEIR OWN STANDARDS TO ALLOW THE OTHER TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES (WHITE TO BLACK) IMPACTS EVERYONE IN A NEGATIVE WAY.

IT IS INHUMANE TO EXPECT THEM TO MEET THE STANDARDS SET BY A WHITE WESTERN WORLD OVER A TWO THOUSAND YEAR HISTORY IN A MATTER OF DECADES, IT SIMPLY CANNOT BE DONE. AND THE MORE THIS BECOMES MANIFEST BY CONSTANT EXPOSURE TO THE MYTHOLOGY THAT THEY CAN, THE GREATER THE FRUSTRATION AND THE MORE NECESSARY IT BECOMES FOR INTERFERENCE FROM AUTHORITY IN ORDER TO ENFORCE COMPLIANCE.

I HAPPEN TO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS ON A REALISTIC LEVEL, NOT A THEORETIC ONE. THIS ISN'T WORKING OUT FOR ANYONE AND THE PROBLEM ISN'T SLOWLY CORRECTING, IT'S GETTING MUCH, MUCH WORSE. A BLACK IN AMERICA SEES AUTHORITY IN THE FORM OF COPS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AS AN EXTENSION OF THEIR PAST ENSLAVEMENT AND THE NARRATIVE CAPITALIZES ON THIS BY CONSTANTLY AMPING UP THE GRIEVANCES THEY HAVE AND DIRECTING IT AT INNOCENT PEOPLE.

IF A COP STOPS BY AND ASKS A QUESTION, HOW HARD IS IT TO SMILE AND APPROACH THEM AND START A FRIENDLY CONVERSATION TO DISPEL THE TENSION INSTEAD OF DELIBERATELY RAMPING IT UP AND PROTESTING UNTIL IT TURNS INTO SOMETHING LIKE THE VIDEO ABOVE. HE WANTED TO FEEL LIKE A VICTIM BECAUSE IT REINFORCES HIS STEREOTYPE OF WHITE COPS AS OPPRESSORS BENT ON HIS DESTRUCTION. THE COPS, USED TO SEEING THIS ESCALATING ANGER IN BLACKS RESPOND WITH THE ONLY TOOL THEY HAVE, FORCE.

IT'S A NO WIN SITUATION AND AT SOME POINT IT IS GOING TO BLOW.

What is even more upsetting is that 7 other officers showed up willing to physically detain this man without questioning a single thing. A badge doesnt grant infinite wisdom.

Watch the live leak video of the cops body cam. Will explain that and why the cop resigned. I thought the same thing. That maybe the guy had a history. But they were just in the mood for violating his rights that day.

 Quoting: Pooka

2nd Link explains why the officer was there. Most citizens would simply comply recognizing the cop was there doing his job but not these days in certain communities and or so many people.

Today, so many want to argue their rights in the streets instead of just responding to a simple request because they immediately go to this "I know my rights" defense. It's dangerous....

Are they right? Well, yes and no. Sure, the guy was on "his" property and yes he as not doing "anything wrong" but when police have had numerous calls of thefts in MY neighborhood I would certainly WELCOME their additional patrolling of my neighborhood and if they wanted to make sure I belonged where I claim I do but again, that is me.

How did we get here? Well....honestly, I think the main culprit are the media and politicians who are bent on sowing seeds of dissent and distrust in order to gain or remain in power and of course lets not forget, there is LOTS of money in sowing this kind of division.

I don't know the answer but the way things are going one thing is certain..more and more of the "good cops" are either going to leave or just never apply for the jobs because who in their right mind would want to subject themselves to the abuse and lack of support along with the constant threat of violence and or criminal charges being levied against them at the drop of a hat? Answer...nobody
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

He gave the cop the only bit of id he had.
Dont typically carry my wallet when im doing yardwork myself.

If you can't see the problems here as well, then it will take until you start getting harassed for no reason.

8 cops...for standing with a bucket and a clamp...
...in your yard...
Weapon drawn...

Aren't you patriots like "dont tread on me"?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77645551

Where did I say I didn't see the problems here?

Harassed for no reason? Hate to tell you but I have been harassed (TWICE) in my life to a level MUCH higher than this man and in fact, in one case for the same reason.

Once I was placed in a choke hold and pulled thru a fence and arrested (disorderly conduct for failure to id) when I had committed no crime of any kind...I thought the cop was going to kill me.

Another some kid had told the cops I had "kicked him". I was walking out of my apt to go wash my car when the cop pulled up, said NOTHING to me but walked up to me and placed me again in a choke hold and took me to the ground, Shouting..."So you like kicking little Kids"...again, this cop didn't say one word to me before doing this so don't talk to me about police ABUSE...I understand it very well.

I will look again at the video but I didn't see a "drawn weapon"...I saw the officer with his hand on his weapon..that is NOT a drawn weapon and yes, I have experienced this before as well. (EDIT) In looking again it does appear the officer actually DID draw his weapon and was holding it at his side. It is my understanding that is against procedure in most police departments as you are not supposed to draw a weapon unless you intend to use it. Of course I'm no attorney and I don't that if that is factual or not.

Had a crazy x-wife called 911 once and then the dumb bitch hung up....well, guess how the officer who showed up at my door reacted to that...yep, with his hand on his gun!

Did I scream about my rights? Did I complain to anyone about him threatening me in my own home? NO...I understood and actually turned to the dumb bitch and told her to look, this is what SHE caused because of HER actions!

I could post videos of cops in similar situations we are discussing here who are DEAD now because they were NOT ready to defend themselves.

It's a fine line between lawfulness and anarchy....there is a level of distrust that has grown and when you CHOOSE to blame one side for that distrust it is YOU who is not seeing the problem.

The link clearly states what led up to it. The officers were out in a show of force because someone had recently stolen a bicycle and the night before or some nights previously had broken into an orthodontics office. The asshole cop happened to see the guy with a trash grabber and decided to harass him.

Don't really understand why assholes think shouting in the street is the proper way to handle situations. The garbage stick is a potential weapon and the guy should have put it down. If the officer had reasonable suspicion to investigate or was called by a complainant to investigate, he had a legal obligation to do so and could not just walk away from the situation. If the citizen did not like the way he was treated he has the legal remedy of filing a complaint with the department, which they then have a legal obligation to investigate.

You coptards always blame cops for following laws and protocols that you don't agree with without considering that those laws and protocols are legislatively put into place by your state and local representatives. I guarantee that the vast majority of you couldn't eve name your city or state reps or state senators if your life depended on it, let alone know anything about their voting records with respect to police protocols. So much easier to jump onto a computer and squeal like scalded dogs than to engage your civic responsibility and hold your local and state reps to account. You get the government you deserve. Order in one hand and shit in the other.

Unless there is a legitimate reason for an "investigation" there is no requirement to "comply" with a police officer. He's just another person, subject to the same laws as everyone else.
Imagine if we went to the officers house and held him at gunpoint for doing yard work.

Truth is they were hoping he throw the trash clamp if they kept egging him on.
there was no cause for any of this and those officers should be charged with felony menacing and assault a deadly weapon.

Police need to learn the limits of their powers better
That's means probable cause, a warrant, or observing a crime without fishing for it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72043142

If those guns come out of them holsters it should be to shoot a deadly imminent threat when no other solution exists, not to try to force compliance.

Chickenshit move that gets a lot of innocent people shot.

This is not what self defense is and typically drawing weapons to force compliance is felony assault with a deadly weapon and possibly kidnapping.

Police must be held to a higher standard of obeying the law, not a non existent one, and a full study of the Constitution (which is the law which limits their powers) should be required for all cops
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72043142

Wonder if the man filed a civil lawsuit against the department and city... he'd win and the city would most likely settle for $$$ out of court.

What a shame cops like this idiot give a bad name to other goo LEO's.

Which laws did he follow? Before you open your stupid ass mouth or fingers, you might want to know the law. You can read them here. [link to www.law.cornell.edu (secure)] and [link to www.lpdirect.net]

"Meh, it's fine" ?

Do you know what eventually happened? I would like more information on this stupid, stupid mess, taking up the time of eight officers, while the man was on his own property minding his own business.

The guy did not cooperate with the officer from the start.
He could have put down the bucket and stick like he was asked to but no, he had to play the victim card.
Stupid Liberals…

Well some of Us tax payers are fed up with this Police state mentality from those WE hire to Protect Us.
If those cops could not tell within the first 10 seconds(common sense) that he was NOT a threat and was in fact picking up garbage with a grabber and NOT a AK47. I don't want them protecting Us.
It's a good thing he didn't point it at them. It could have accidently went off and picked up that piece of white trash pointing the 9mm at him.(BTW I'm White, and a tax payer)

And I didn't see any victim card being played.
I saw a cop with his gun drawn about to make a dead victim out of a MAN picking up trash. Why was he even questioned?
Daily Quota? Stupid AC.

Wish I could get some my white neighbors to pick up the crap in their yards.

We need laws to apply to everyone

If a cop threatens the life a person then they should be held accountable.

They drew first. That is enough justification for a cop to shoot you so it should be equal protection under the law for everyone.

If that clamp is a weapon, then why do the cops here give the to the prisoners that are out picking up litter on the side of the road? I regularly see 10-15 prisoners with those clamps with one cop watching them.
