Do you know what eventually happened? I would like more information on this stupid, stupid mess, taking up the time of eight officers, while the man was on his own property minding his own business.

That was one sad darned display!! Shaking my head as I think about it - good thing the officer resigned or he would have been fired and rightly so. Eight officers called away from patrol duty or other tasks to stand around a man on his own property picking up trash. The Lieutenant or other senior officer said in effect - So now you know he lives here. No, I don't, replies the jerk. Yes, your partner just confirmed it - as if he didn't know that - the partner came back out the door and said yes, he lives and works here.

That's just so stupid - I am incensed. What a waste - and pulling guns? What the heck? I have one of those things - it's called a reacher - for my purposes, anyway - and it is far from a weapon for pete's sake.

Unless there is a legitimate reason for an "investigation" there is no requirement to "comply" with a police officer. He's just another person, subject to the same laws as everyone else.
Imagine if we went to the officers house and held him at gunpoint for doing yard work.

Truth is they were hoping he throw the trash clamp if they kept egging him on.
there was no cause for any of this and those officers should be charged with felony menacing and assault a deadly weapon.

Police need to learn the limits of their powers better
That's means probable cause, a warrant, or observing a crime without fishing for it.

Was viewing the liveleak video in full and my sound cut out at the 19 min mark - right after he was instructed to give the ID back to the guy.

So did mine - very aggravating. Thought person the officer shut it off because he was getting a dressing down - last thing we heard before the cut off was "So give him back his ID and we're out of here". Then silence. Frustrating.

If those guns come out of them holsters it should be to shoot a deadly imminent threat when no other solution exists, not to try to force compliance.

This is not what self defense is and typically drawing weapons to force compliance is felony assault with a deadly weapon and possibly kidnapping.

Police must be held to a higher standard of obeying the law, not a non existent one, and a full study of the Constitution (which is the law which limits their powers) should be required for all cops

agreed, i'm not sure what it's like there, but here? they have to sign a complete report for deholstering their weapon.

In the jurisdictions where I have been involved, no paperwork for unholstering, but a good long explanation of the stop to justify calling out other officers and all that.

To fire a weapon requires soooooooo much paperwork and involvement that I'm aware of situations where they have encouraged a civilian to put down an injured deer and like that, just to avoid the paperwork. LOL

This officer was so far out of line - just common sense would tell anybody that the man is picking up garbage - how much prowling was he doing on his own property? How threatening was his "weapon"? It was so incredibly stupid - that department certainly has a black eye!

The guy did not cooperate with the officer from the start.
He could have put down the bucket and stick like he was asked to but no, he had to play the victim card.

No, I disagree. Real conservatives and old-school liberals don't want to live in a police state. If you're on private property you do not have to comply with the police unless they have a warrant. They could simply ask the man questions while he continued to pick up garbage from his yard.

I once talked to a sheriff and we had a nice long talk and it was super friendly like 7 years ago..no biggie..you treat them with respect..and they will treat you nicely.

There is a A LOT MORE to this story than what this video is implying. The cops are there because he is a suspect.

Arguing with the police and refusing to do what they ask almost always never ends well.

I try to be polite and respectful to police, because they ruin your life if you piss them off. If they are out of line, then let an Attorney deal with it. Don't give the police any excuse to abuse you.
