2112 ("Twenty-One Twelve") is the fourth studio album by Canadian progressive rock band Rush, released in 1976 (see 1976 in music). The Toronto dates of the 2112 tour were recorded and released as All The World's a Stage in September 1976.
The album 2112 features an eponymous seven-part suite written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics written by Neil Peart. The suite tells a dystopian story set in the year 2112. Since the album got its name from this suite, many fans think of it as a concept album. Technically it is not, as the songs on the second side are completely unrelated to the plot of the suite. Rush would repeat this arrangement in Hemispheres.

In the year 2062, a galaxy-wide war results in the union of all planets under the rule of the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The world is controlled by the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx, who determine the content of all reading matter, songs, pictures - every facet of life during the year 2112 ("The Temples of Syrinx"). A man finds a guitar and learns to play new, different music from what he has ever heard. When he goes to present this to the priests of the Temples, they destroy the guitar. He goes into hiding and dreams of music; upon awakening he becomes severely depressed and commits suicide after a few more days in hiding. As he dies, another planetary battle begins ("Grand Finale") resulting in the (perhaps deliberately) ambiguous ending "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation: We have assumed control." (this spoken section was created by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reportedly "messing around with a tape recorder")

Probably the best band to have ever existed. Late 70's to mid eighties period - just unbeatable. My staple diet during my teenage years. Taught me so much. Neil Peart, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson... thank you sooo much.

I have followed this band since 1974. I have taken two, yes two, trips to Europe following their tours through the UK, Germany, Holland. I have even taken a trip to Brezno, Slovakia where a friend lives and where my family came to the USA from. In a photography store window are three large photographs of all three members. If RUSH reads this, when you go to Europe in 2011 please play at the Aqua Center in Poprad, Slovakia, PREASE! They are touring this Summer and next Summer/ Fall. The latest CD 2007 Snakes and Arrows is ver powerful, and even Mr. Peart admits he is done with the old stuff, the new stuff rocks. This tour this Summer is called, The Time Machine Tour, and if anything Rush are Masons, the words, symbols and such are similar, maybe even Thule Society. I've always hated Rush. OP, I think you're right.

+1 I too have always hated Rush, can't stand his whiney voice. His music contributed to my divorce. The ex loved them, I hated them and could not stand to hear their music being played.

Also, I met Getty Lee one time, he was an a-hole and expected special treatment because of who he is. Ha, he was not getting special treatment from me.
