Only 40% of crops have been planted

The actual worse case scenario is that most of the crops get planted this year and then next year the same situation happens again and people say: oh you said that last year and then we got nearly 99% of crops in by June. Then instead of warming and clearing by June of next year, we get even more cold damp weather.

OP, you're right there are issues and welcome to the new ice age, but the US gave up grain reserves in the 70's. Hasn't a thing to do with Trump. Blame Nixon. The same guy that took us entirely away from gold to fiat.

Potatoes, Jerusalem Artichokes, acorns, flush out the tanins first in a creek or even your flush toilet tank. Cattail roots...Lots of starch around. One only needs to know and look.

Interesting concept. I have no idea. If crops to feed this country have to be grown inside - no - I don't believe that will work. Maybe tomatoes? Maybe one or two things, but not enough to feed the country. Of course the elite already have steaks and lobster and every good thing are already stocked for years to come in the under-mountain bunkers made for them with golf courses, swimming pools, theaters, libraries, etc.

For us - pft - whistle for your dinner, I suspect.

Something feels off. Gas in California is going for ~$4/gallon and the stations are 'waiting on delivery' half the fucking time I stop in.

Im not sure if the gas stations here in arizona restored there gas, but some circle k's were completely out of gas.

I've never heard of a hydroponic operations that grows seed. It's such an energy intensive operation that they can only afford to get a cash crop out. Hydroponics won't be able to grow grains in the quantity that we need.

Fruit trees in W WA are doing wonderfully, judging by my own. Commercial fruit crops are grown on the east side, however, and I have no idea how their spring has gone. Berry crops, again judging by my own, are doing marvelously here.

Home gardens can save a number of people, depending on the amount of land they can plant and what specifically they are planting. Everyone can plant at least something - a window box in a highrise apartment? [Watch out below!!] Containers most places. Also buying in bulk at peak season and canning and freezing - highly recommended.

Buy quantities of seed for sprouting - a huge nutritional bump and incredibly easy. Available in non-GMO readily. I've bought a lot on eBay. Then learned I cannot eat them - very sad day.

Grow something - anything is better than nothing. Can you have chickens? HAVE THEM!!! Eggs are excellent protein. Let chickens free range during the day. They will return to their coop at dusk, and you must shut them in for protection from predators. If you have rooster, get an additional bantam hen, who will sit on eggs and hatch them, giving you more chickens, free! Stock food for them, so they have some of that in addition to all they free range - bugs, weed seeds, all kinds of things you don't want and can't get rid of, but they can.

Edit to add: Walmart bakery sells all their icing buckets for a dollar each - at least here that's the cost. Drill a few drainage holes in the bottom and plant whatever you like. Potatoes, for one thing. Put a few inches soil in the bottom, add potato eyes, cover with anything you have - grass clippings if lawn not treated with poisons, hay, anything at all. Soil if necessary. As the leaves grow up, tuck more refuse around the leaves. Keep going up as the plants grow, and they will continue forming potatoes all the way up to the top of the bucket. Easy harvest - dump the bucket and pick them out.
