Let's get real for a moment. If war between Iran and USA happens, Iran would completely obliterate US navy in the gulf in 24 hours. So its good thing for Americans it didn't took off.

I don't think Americans could handle total defeat of their navy, they would start to literally melt, everyone from late night show hosts to ordinary people on streets, it would be complete nuthouse in disbelief. And then fear would kick in, Americans need to have great trust in their army to protect them, if that is gone they would feel like fish out of water.

Its not same with Russians, they've been without proper army for ten years after fall of USSR and nobody gave a damn but Americans would lose it without knowing their army can protect them. Same as with guns, they just don't feel safe without guns.
