I don't completely agree here. We can be protecting ourselves the moment we know ebola is anywhere near. Wearing protection any time we go out in public, for example.

Last time we had an uptick in ebola cases, it became harder to find the N95 masks, though gloves were pretty much available. To have them on hand is best, and to be prepared to use them at the drop of a case of ebola is better yet.

I think martial law might come into play once it arrives here, meaning it's best to have already on hand everything your household needs in food and water. People in charge of things, like municipal water systems, garbage collection, much law enforcement, even nuclear plant technicians, will choose to stay home and take care of their own families, so we will be without anything we have come to depend upon, very early in the epidemic/pandemic.

Have in mind that you will stay home, keep your family safe, and rely on what you already have stored.

The United Nations (UN) today announced the creation of an emergency Ebola response coordinator, a role that officials hope will tackle the security and political challenges facing the response efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's (DRC's) 10-month-long Ebola outbreak.



The UN appointed David Gressly, MBA, currently the UN's deputy special representative for peacekeeping missions in the DRC, to the post. Gressly is expected to work closely with the World Health Organization (WHO).

A white paper presented in Washington, D.C. today at the 3rd Annual Pandemic & Biosecurity Forum outlines strategies to improve pandemic and biosecurity preparedness and response in the face of infectious diseases.


Key recommendations from the report include:

Designate senior-level White House leadership for pandemic response and pandemic preparedness

Donor and host nations must continue investments in health systems strengthening at the community level with specific attention to Global Health Security Agenda related priorities

Armed guards may protect health workers as ebola threatens to spread beyond Congo


Health workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo may be assigned armed guards as they try to stop an outbreak of the deadly ebola virus from spreading across borders.

“The ebola outbreak is at a tipping point,” Rory Stewart, Britain’s international development secretary, told The Sunday Times. “It is no longer just a medical emergency. It is a political and a security crisis. This disease not only poses a threat to the region in Africa, but ultimately potentially to Europe and the UK.”

Rwanda gets prepared amid Ebola outbreak in DR Congo


In the context of the on-going Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda security forces held an Ebola simulation exercise to ensure preparedness of any emergency outbreak from neighboring country.The exercise dubbed “Kumira Ebola Simulation Exercise” (Prevent Ebola) was held at the Rugerero Heath Centre in Rubavu, the military statement made available Sunday to APA in Kigali said.


This second medical simulation exercise tested Rwandan military medical service personnel and other stakeholders on the readiness and general conduct during a probable Ebola outbreak in Rwanda, it said.

The Ministry of Health has assured the general public that Rwanda is on red alert to tackle Ebola from spreading to the country, after a number of cases were reported in the neighbouring DR Congo.
