Dude convinces chick he met on Match that he's in love after one week and to give him $80K for a house for the two

They say love blinds a person — something one local woman can attest to after being defrauded of more than $80,000 by a man she met on a dating website.

On March 27, the victim met 35-year-old John Hill of Duluth on Match.com, where they began talking. That same day, the two met, and Hill reportedly told the victim he was a millionaire.

Within a week of knowing one another, Hill “convinced (the victim) that they were in love,” Gwinnett County Police Department Cpl. Michele Pihera said, and the two agreed to get married.


“They went house hunting and selected a home they were interested in,” Pihera said. “The woman gave the suspect more than $80,000 to use toward the purchase of a house and furniture. Following the exchange of money, the suspect ceased all contact.”

Gwinnett County Police Department detectives who investigated the alleged fraud “learned that the suspect lives at an apartment in Duluth with another woman and child,” Pihera said.
