What does Kubrick have to do with it. The book is written by Arthur C Clark. Sure Kubrick took some artistic merits with things but the story is by Clarke. How did he come up with lots of things. He wrote about satellites in one of his early fiction pieces and NASA ended up making him an honorary employee or something when they actually went to create them. They could do so because he described how they would work in great detail. Also Kubrick left a ton out of Space Osyssey. He leaves out that mankind becomes like super human and one person that can jump through space and time destroys all the nukes orbiting earth at the end.
