Music therapy uses music to address a number of emotional, cognitive, and social issues in people of all ages. It is often used with people who have disabilities or illness, but the healing benefits of music can be enjoyed by anyone and at any age. The process of making and listening to music can provide a channel for communication and expression that may go beyond what is easily expressed in words. According to the American Music Therapy Association, Music Therapy is "the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program." How did music therapy begin? The connection between music and emotion has long been acknowledged, along with the ability of music to influence both mental and physical health. Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle all wrote about how music affects health and behavior, and aboriginal tribes from all over the world have used music as part of their healing arts. Music therapy as it exists today began in the 1960s as scientists and doctors began proving the healing power of music with clinical trials. In the 1970s, "new age" music emerged as a genre of music without recognizable harmony, rhythm or melody that is used for yoga, meditation and relaxation. Today, music therapists work in a variety of different settings including hospitals and clinics, schools, substance abuse centers, nursing homes and private practice. ~Blue Spirit~ |

Great thread subject material, lovey.... You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete. -Buckminster Fuller ...I adapt to the unknown, under wandering stars I've grown, by myself, but not alone... Quoting: cosmicgypsy Great thread subject material, lovey.... Thank you :-).. I started reading into it a little while ago as I was sick and tired of my anxiety and stress...it was bordering on depression... I certainly didn't want to take prescription drugs for it as I believe that only masks the problems and doesn't get to the root cause of the problems... So, I tried it in meditation and after a few times, I really did notice the benefits from this :-)... i decided to use it more often during the day whenever I could... ~Blue Spirit~ |

This calms them a lot from what I've seen and helps the process of their passing to be less stressful for themselves and their family members... I've also tried it with the disabled people I work with and I see the benefits there too :-)... ~Blue Spirit~ |

Also, it's been proven to help us either mentally, physically or emotionally depending on what we are "using" music for... I believe we should bring the art of music back into our lives more as in this day and age, it can get quite stressful with working and daily life in general... This will lower a lot of people's blood pressures and help them with any health problems should they just take at least 10 minutes a day to unwind with some music.. A friendlier and less stressful society.. :-).. I'm listening to some nice, "unwinding" music atm... ~Blue Spirit~ |
