Music Therapy?
Anyone heard of or tried music therapy?

I've looked into it all and have tried it out, firstly starting off with it in my meditations, just light melodic music first and then onto binaural beats...
I have noticed a significant change in my awareness levels becoming more crystal clear in my meditations and in my daily waking life...

I'm a massive sufferer of anxiety and panic attacks.. I have noticed by "tuning in" in my meditations whilst using music, that my stress levels have lowered and I've not felt anxious as much as I used to...I've noticed my blood pressure has lowered too to a certain extent..

I really do believe there may be some truth to this using music therapy and there are many benefits to our mental, physical and emotional health...

It's been being used for centuries and there have been reports of significant changes in people's mental health as well as emotionally and physically...

Anyways, just putting it out there to any who are interested :-)...

More in the article linked..

More from the article...

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy uses music to address a number of emotional, cognitive, and social issues in people of all ages. It is often used with people who have disabilities or illness, but the healing benefits of music can be enjoyed by anyone and at any age. The process of making and listening to music can provide a channel for communication and expression that may go beyond what is easily expressed in words.

According to the American Music Therapy Association, Music Therapy is "the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program."

How did music therapy begin?
The connection between music and emotion has long been acknowledged, along with the ability of music to influence both mental and physical health. Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle all wrote about how music affects health and behavior, and aboriginal tribes from all over the world have used music as part of their healing arts.

Music therapy as it exists today began in the 1960s as scientists and doctors began proving the healing power of music with clinical trials.

In the 1970s, "new age" music emerged as a genre of music without recognizable harmony, rhythm or melody that is used for yoga, meditation and relaxation.

Today, music therapists work in a variety of different settings including hospitals and clinics, schools, substance abuse centers, nursing homes and private practice.

Thank you :-)..

I started reading into it a little while ago as I was sick and tired of my anxiety and stress...it was bordering on depression...

I certainly didn't want to take prescription drugs for it as I believe that only masks the problems and doesn't get to the root cause of the problems...

So, I tried it in meditation and after a few times, I really did notice the benefits from this :-)... i decided to use it more often during the day whenever I could...

I also work in palliative end of life care with the elderly and disabled people...

I've had a lot of requests at work for music in the patients rooms at times of stress and at the end of their life...

This calms them a lot from what I've seen and helps the process of their passing to be less stressful for themselves and their family members...

I've also tried it with the disabled people I work with and I see the benefits there too :-)...

Yep.. very powerful and calming too... this is the type of music I have such requests for but I believe any music can be powerful to the mind in which our preferences are...

Personally, I use it for meditation, helping the elderly and disabled or just When I'm very stressed and need to wind down some...

It's interesting to me how the ancients used music for all kinds of benefits..

Also, it's been proven to help us either mentally, physically or emotionally depending on what we are "using" music for...

I believe we should bring the art of music back into our lives more as in this day and age, it can get quite stressful with working and daily life in general...

This will lower a lot of people's blood pressures and help them with any health problems should they just take at least 10 minutes a day to unwind with some music..

A friendlier and less stressful society.. :-)..

I'm listening to some nice, "unwinding" music atm...

Well, my preference for music is really just the relaxing and meditative kind as I work with that a lot...

I use music to just help me unwind when my anxiety peaks or to just have a lift me up in general...

I definitely see the benefits from it and notice my health changes mentally/emotionally :-)..
