Buy nothing, own nothing, live cheaply, eat simply, live alone, be free. Does that sound right to anyone here?

traveling wears out your car. I like to stay put and use my bike for transportation. I'm projecting that my car will last 18-20 years. Its over 12 right now.

Take buses. Take trains.

Yes, it sucks at times, but it is all about the adventure.

Comfort and ease are not always good things.

Do what others are afraid to do or are too lazy to do.

This is how I live OP it's the right way for me. Can I ask why you advocate travelling?

The world is a VERY big place.

Ignorance is NEVER bliss.

See it all.

Try everything.

Taste unusual foods.

Learn how others live.

Be different.

Go where others are afraid to go.

Learn a foreign language.

Experience everything!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71575565

No. There are many things I would rather not experience.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76984449

Your choice.

To me, I want to try it all before I die.

And doing so does NOT mean that you must be rich.

You just need to be debt free, own very little, have no responsibilities or ties.

In other words FREE to do or go anywhere you want.

It is the pious way, good and spiritual. You can get the same result without the suffering, by giving freely and accepting no gifts or favors, and only use a fraction of what you earn to not suffer and have some hobbies or things you like.

Me too! We are in a small town in a two rez Indian community, also small. If your house burns down, everyone will bring Stuff to the basement of the church you go to and you pick out what you need for your new apt., furniture to bedding to clothes. Leftover stuff goes to Salvation army. Like St. Francis said, If you have two coats, give one to your brother who has none.

If youre hungry there are relatives and free pantries. If my husband and his cousin get a Moose, they send word out and every one in need hangs a plastic bag on their door and he fills it with a few pounds of meat, Elders first, young kids in families second.
Every one works hard, usually at two jobs in Summer, one in Winter. We buy reliable older used cars and put another hundred thousand on them. We give anyone walking a ride, but even our old people walk everywhere and we just buried a lady who was 102, the average age around here for dying, we dont overeat, we walk, we love each other and our families,we are very serious about our Faith and we LAUGH alot, sing alot, everyone plays a fiddle or guitar.

Our priest was asked how to have a "slow " four year old under stand praying to GOD. Fr. Knew the family and that they had pets so he said, Jacob, close your eyes and pretend you're like your little cat Muffin. And God is petting you on the top of your head like you pet muffin because you just love her...and God is petting you and saying youre a good boy and he just loves you. And the kids's eyes lit up and he said "ya, OK" and Fr. said now to pray, just say "I love you too, God". And that was a lesson for all of us...no matter what, we are blessed. Love can handle anything, and money is just paper.

I live better than billionaires on 30k a year, seriously. For example they float around on a yaught where they don't even get wet. I float on a tube, have river otters swim by me, get out eat figs and berries fresh from the tree/bush.

I live on only 25K a year.

Happier than I have ever been!

I have been married and have also lived a single life for the most time .. I must say that I was extremely lonely in the married life and found that the single life was so much more beneficial for me. I have always been more of a solitary person who was very much into my singing and teaching and traveling. Marriage is not for everyone.I guess everyone is different and what suits one does not necessarily suit anther. Living a simple life is also important to me for spiritual reasons. I am much more able to find the true me when not cluttered with material objects and unnecessary responsibilities. Doesn't mean I have no friends or am a misfit . Just prefer to tread my own path and live as simply as possible.

Having a spouse and having children are two of the biggest traps that humanity faces.

True that...you can escape when the time is right BUT you must fufil your purpose. There is no escaping child rearing really...but you can walk away once they are looked after and so (in my case) is your wife.

"Buy nothing, own nothing, live cheaply, eat simply, live alone, be free. Does that sound right to anyone here?"

It sounds like the "minimalist" lifestyle movement.

There are many "bandwagon" movements... prepper/hoarders, minimalists, tiny house movement, etc, etc...

Materialism is entrapment. Just like everything else in Life, there has to be balance.

When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour, HE creates balance and abundant peace within our souls.

We learn how to enjoy abundance and we learn how to enjoy want.

Jesus Takes us out of the world and out of the cares of the world.

TRUE FREEDOM and SIMPLICITY is ONLY found in Jesus Christ.

Seek The Lord and His Word, (the King James Bible) for wisdom on all matters pertaining to Life in Christ and godliness.

Because they don't recognise themselves in others is the correct answers but that's for another thread.

Also 'wanting and acquiring material objects' is a trick of evolution. This trick fools you into getting what you think you want so you appear more attractive to the opposite sex (surrounded by material things) and thus find it easier to procreate. But as always you'll find that when you've acquired the object/thing you've been desiring so much it isn't so great and the desire soon wears off and is replaced with a new shiny desire to keep you acquiring those useless objects/things.
