FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Christmas came early for a 5-year-old girl at Fort Bragg.
Ila Haskin is battling diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, an inoperable form of brain cancer. Doctors don’t expect her to make it to December.
The Fort Bragg community wanted her to be able to celebrate one more Christmas, so they decorated homes in her neighborhood with Christmas lights and put on a parade with emergency vehicles and Jeeps.
Santa visited, despite the 90-degree weather, the Fayetteville Observer reported.
Carolers and princesses visited, too, and Ila rode a pony.
The Christmas celebration followed a Halloween party on Sunday, which included a trunk-or-treat event, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

I've participated in such Make a Wish events; it's always amazing to see a child's joy and sense of wonder, even while dealing with terrible circumstances.
