No one noticed, but there were no aftershocks after that 8.0. That's not good, that 8.0 was just a precursor.

Very odd to have a quake that size be a one-off. No significant precursor & no quakes, at all, along the Western side of South & Central America in at least the last 12 hours & I mean nothing showing up.
I believe that I heard/read that this quake happened fairly close, time wise, to the time that the big comet flew by & while I'm not one who believes in coincidences, I can't prove any correlation(mainly because I'm not well enough versed in The Electrical Universe Theory to speak on it).

In all honesty, I've never heard of that happening. This doesn't mean it doesn't ever happen or cannot happen but surely it's very rare. Also, precursor seismic events (preceding huge quakes) are normally in the roughly 4.5 to 6.5 range, I think.

On the other hand, the New Madrid, Missouri quakes of the early 19th century did not follow a normal pattern. But that is in a mid-plate fault zone, unlike the Peruvian Andes, where major crustal plates converge.

FWIW, if any one is curious, here is the Japanese / Fukushima Daiichi Earthquake of 2011.

The moment the earthquake strikes is epic to say the least.
