Regular reporters are the same way. Could you imagine getting excited about a new war or otherwise terrible event just because it will help make your career? I knew someone that used to work as a dispatcher at my local Fox tv channel. Her job was to listen to all the police bands, online reports, etc. and pick which ones to send the news vans to cover. She had to pick the events that would attract the most interest which was always the gory, strange, or racist stuff. She quit after a couple years because she couldn’t handle the emotional dynamic of making a paycheck off of tragedy anymore. |
