I don't believe I saw even 1 (one) cigarette? Back in 1944 practically everyone smoked cigarettes, and there always seems to be lots of smoking in old movies? But not this one? ? |

George Brent and Paul Lukas...directed by Jacques Tourneur-he always had a unique style, sort of artsy. RKO Radio Pictures, had occasionally dived into unique pieces...ventured off from the mainstream of MGM and Warner. I love the old classic movies. I will say that it's done in a style that you can "read more" into the presented premise. Again, Tourneur at his best. He did "Cat People", "Walked With A Zombie", and "Leopard Man" and those all have a "strange flavor"...quirky. On the front side it's a period piece with a macabre drama flavor. |

Or was the title to indicate the movie itself was a perilous experiment in cinema? I thought the movie was a bit strange? Sort of like some sort of unspoken message being addressed, indirectly. In the end there is a open field of "Daisies" outside a country house, the "Daisies" was a trigger for some post-hypnotic suggestion or mind-controll trigger-word used in the movie? ? ? |
