I would be very cautious if you have vacation plans outside the U.S.

No worries here as an expat for over 3 years. I'm more concerned about my family in the US.

What about the "missing hiker" found on Maui after she went missing 2 weeks? Many travelers also are of the "ugly self-entitled Americans" type. They show no respect to the locals and that paints a big target on them if they piss off the wrong person.

It would be interesting to see how many of these Americans died because they didn't get any proper vaccinations for regions they're travelling. I get tested for TB every year and had all my vaccinations (Hep A/B, Encephalitis and Meningitis). Food poisoning is also more common due to the different health codes compared to the US.

Not to worry, all those foreigners flooding across the US Southern border are bringing all the once eradicated diseases back to the US. I hear typhus is reaching pandemic levels in shithole LA.
You are born with the truth, then taught a lie.

The President did say Americans are aitting ducks.

Perhaps he knows that the anti immigration rhetoric is pissing off the people of the southern countries. And he is trying to warn them even though his reference was 'different' ?!

And another one in Fiji...

Michelle Paul died on May 25 and her 37-year-old husband passed away two days later.

The Health Ministry in Fiji said an investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

Better off just vacationing right here in the USA anymore, I think. It's really too bad, but that's the way it's been for a few years now.

Why would I want to go to another country, where Anti-American sentiment looms large (and has for many years now)? I don't even have to travel for that, I can just stay here.tounge

Re: I think these Americans dying on vacation outside the country are being poisoned
Legionnaires' disease
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76792534

Sources of Legionella
Documented sources include cooling towers,[16] swimming pools (especially in Scandinavian countries), domestic water systems and showers, ice-making machines,[17] refrigerated cabinets, whirlpool spas,[18][19] hot springs,[20] fountains,[21] dental equipment,[22] soil,[23] automobile windshield washer fluid,[24] and industrial coolant.[25]

Airborne transmission from cooling towers
The largest[26] and most common source of Legionnaires' disease outbreaks are cooling towers (heat rejection equipment used in air conditioning and industrial cooling water systems) primarily because of the risk for widespread circulation. Many governmental agencies, cooling tower manufacturers, and industrial trade organisations have developed design and maintenance guidelines for controlling the growth and proliferation of Legionella within cooling towers.

Research in the Journal of Infectious Diseases (2006) provided evidence that L. pneumophila, the causative agent of Legionnaires' disease, can travel at least 6 km from its source by airborne spread. It was previously believed that transmission of the bacterium was restricted to much shorter distances. A team of French scientists reviewed the details of an epidemic of Legionnaires' disease that took place in Pas-de-Calais, northern France, in 2003–2004. Of 86 confirmed cases during the outbreak, 18 resulted in death. The source of infection was identified as a cooling tower in a petrochemical plant, and an analysis of those affected in the outbreak revealed that some infected people lived as far as 6–7 km from the plant.[27]

Legionnaires' disease
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76792534

Symptoms
Legionnaires' disease usually develops two to 10 days after exposure to legionella bacteria. It frequently begins with the following signs and symptoms:

Headache
Muscle pain
Chills
Fever that may be 104 F (40 C) or higher
By the second or third day, you'll develop other signs and symptoms that may include:

Cough, which may bring up mucus and sometimes blood
Shortness of breath
Chest pain
Gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
Confusion or other mental changes
Although legionnaires' disease primarily affects the lungs, it occasionally can cause infections in wounds and in other parts of the body, including the heart.

A mild form of legionnaires' disease — known as Pontiac fever — may produce signs and symptoms including a fever, chills, headache and muscle aches. Pontiac fever doesn't infect your lungs, and symptoms usually clear within two to five days.

Re: I think these Americans dying on vacation outside the country are being poisoned
some lady said she drank a mini bar soda that tasted like Chlorine water and had mouth burns earlier this year...

--------------------------------------------------------

Chlorine
A very effective chemical treatment is chlorine. For systems with marginal issues, chlorine provides effective results at 0.5 ppm[citation needed] residual in the hot water system. For systems with significant Legionella problems, temporary shock chlorination—where levels are raised to higher than 2 ppm for a period of 24 hours or more and then returned to 0.5 ppm may be effective.[citation needed] Hyperchlorination can also be used where the water system is taken out of service and the chlorine residual is raised to 50 ppm or higher at all distal points for 24 hours or more. The system is then flushed and returned to 0.5 ppm chlorine prior to being placed back into service. These high levels of chlorine penetrate biofilm, killing both the Legionella bacteria and the host organisms. Annual hyperchlorination can be an effective part of a comprehensive Legionella preventive action plan.[31]

Have you guys read anything about it? It's definitely poisoning. The survivors say that after returning from a time-share presentation where they decided not to buy, the room smelled like strong paint and they began with stomach cramps, burning eyes, etc.

It is definitely poisoning. But, its one specific resort in the Dominican Republic.

So, I agree with the other expat. WE're fine here. Thanks for the concern. I'm more worried about you, and the fact that I'm moving to TExas in a couple of months. Definitely feel far less safe in the states.

Also, some of the tourists consumed a beverage from the room minibar before becoming suddenly ill. Scores of people who traveled to the Dominican Republic in recent years have reached out to Fox News with accounts of having fallen ill after having a beverage from their room minibar or buying one elsewhere in their resort.
