I.e. god punishes you by allowing pain on others, which in turn purifies you... Stockholm syndrome anyone?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77315642

Not allowing, comforting, caring, loving during the pain.

As my mother was dying my atheist brother who swore he would take care of her, ignored her most basic needs like a warm pair of socks while he sold off all of her belongings.
 Quoting: Masiro®

That was your brother, not a set if beliefs ordained or not ordained by some man made deity...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77315642

You sound a little bitter about that...

Had my brother embraced those beliefs he would have taken better care of my mother as he pledged he would...

Nope. Not bitter at all. You are projecting. I would advocate counseling, not theology.

Re: Simple Question: if you do not believe in God, why don't you?
There are no other 'gods'.

Just the one true God and creator of all life.

He is the only one who is real and sovereign, which is why He and His followers are attacked so relentlessly.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77315642

...and who or what "created" the creator?
 Quoting: nineteeneightyfive

Ask yourself, is this even a relevant question? How does it change your belief in God. We have a Creator. IF He has a Creator as well, that doesn't change the fact that He still created us.

This is why we were given the story of the Tower of Babel, to show mankind, that; questions [and quests] like these are all in vain.

Does it truly benefit us, and more importantly, is it something you would even believe, and if you did, how would that affect the way you view life as we now know it?

There are a lot of ways and phrases to use to keep this into perspective, but maybe we should just leave this as is!

Yes. It is a very relevant question. So answer it.

Re: Simple Question: if you do not believe in God, why don't you?
Even the demons believe in God and know who Jesus is. Trusting him with your life is truly believing, we need to take up our cross daily and crucify the flesh.

John 3:16 isn't as simple as it comes across. In the original Greek, the word "believe" is actually “Pisteuo”.

“Pisteuo” is a total trust and abandonment of oneself upon the object of the belief. There is no English word that is equivalent in meaning to the word “pisteuo”. The closest word that the translators could find for the word “pisteuo” is “believe”. So they translated “pisteuo” as “believe”. But the word “believe” on its own does not convey what “pisteuo” actually means. “Pisteuo” describes an action that is like sitting on a chair – you put your entire weight on the chair. You abandon yourself and rest totally on the chair – in complete trust. “Pisteuo” also conveys the idea of yielding or surrendering.

James 2:19
19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
 Quoting: The Revenant

... sigh, and in a 1000 years from now as society lays in ruins a new God and religion will spawn, and no one will ever have heard of a Christian. But the mythos will replay all over...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77315642

I have a verse for your kind also.

Matthew 7:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

Why should there be a burden at all? Kind of sound like you are creating your own prison through false beliefs.

It is a human and Earthly idea to believe in beginning and ends. Does Eternity have a beginning or end? Does time? What created 'God'. No evidence for any answers to any questions. How could we know anything, us specks of pointless dust? If using a 'God' explains what is unknown for you, ok. For me, that doesn't work.

I don't believe in God because I have no reason to. There is no evidence to suggest that such a being exists.

I also don't believe in the Hindu pantheon, for exactly the same reason.

Ditto for every other proposed deity that claims to be the only True way to see the world. There isn't any reason to believe it, unless you choose to have faith in it. I don't.

The universe is a wondrous place that I want to explore and understand; the frameworks of physics, biology and everything else are utterly fascinating, and the world of the mind is equally intriguing (if more ambiguous). Simply Choosing one deity or another to believe in, as if that creation story explains it all, is just avoiding the most interesting questions... and is basically a cop-out. As well as completely pointless, because the odds are stacked heavily against it being right.

So you attributed a simple occurrence of this reality into the divine. You see what you want to see.

What about those that are righteous and just, without believing in a supreme deity? What about those that treat others with kindness and respect, simply because those acts make this reality better for everyone?

What if one walks the path of nobility and honor but believes knowledge of what comes next isn't allowed. That if that knowledge were known, it would ruin this reality.

What if you could see the light in their eyes and their love of life? Would you lock arms with such an individual and call them brother?
