In cases it is a way of guiding people who are down and out giving them something to fight for (emotionally and psychologically) but it can also be used to control vulnerable people... I'm not against people practicing whatever beliefs they chose, providing it doesn't harm others... I'd rather be judged on my own actions of respect and kindness towards others than what a book written by the hand of another man tells me to do.
