You probably have a neighbor with a TV that uses the same frequency remote code and you caught a far off signal from their remote.
Quoting: Skip. 65507635 I used to sit and change channels on my neighbor's tv and turn it on and off using a universal remote. Entertainment for hours. I used to have a remote control that could learn signals. You could aim a garage door opener at it and it would remember the code. Thieves used it. I think I got mine at a garage sale and learned of its nefarious uses later on.
