I've seen deaths faked and people put into more "useful" roles that they probably didn't entirely hate. I've seen them faked and the people tortured for decades after. Have also seen a few die, whether executed in cold blood, shot in the heat of the moment, or just treated so terribly that it was bound to happen. It leaves you feeling empty. And powerless.
