But if most American cities and far more states and parts of the federal government were managed by conservatives - and there weren't so many Paul-Ryan, John-McCain-type Republicans out there - and the media and culture were of the right too - and the level of mendacity and lack of ethics were still high, then I'd go with more of the "both parties" argument.
