Lol... when I was little, it was glass containers that were such a health, safety and environment concern. I give it five years beforebthere's a hemp or bamboo substitute for plastic. Then 30 years later THAT substitute will be causing problems.

Reusable bamboo utensils (for eating out at fast food joints) and metal/glass straws are becoming very popular now. Even Walmart sells them.

Hiware paper straws are great but not really used much in America.

I was given a paper straw at a cafe and it actually started to break down rather quickly and became useless. Maybe not all are like that, but the one I tried wasn't so great. I keep a steel straw on me most of the time as crazy as that may sound. I don't like creating unnecessary waste.

The straw is good for when you are on the go. We use paper at my work and they fall apart after an hour in the cup. However I can think of many more items more important to ban and more detrimental to nature. One being Mr newsom himself.
Maybe you're just paranoid, pudders.

I always wonder if the earth will survive plastics. When they degrade, they just degrade into smaller & smaller particles. What's going to happen when the earth is choked with microscopic plastics at the microbial level and starts impacting life at that level? Any plastics engineers care to chime in? I'm thinking that isn't going to be good.

This would maybe explain why every food seems a little different texture-wise than before ? Like every rice grain seems to have a large 'polymer' [how I mentally label, for lack of a better word]
component that chewing doesn't affect, [except, to make it more 'self-adherent' ? , or 'clumping' ?] so 'you' just give up and swallow it ?

I can't stand paper straws, so will be buying the stainless steel silicone ones that are reusable.

Also one thing I notice is when people are talking the outcome of bad policies, ie the bad policy of not using bio plastics, for ex. Oil industry.

And you bring up the direct cause, the root of the problem, and everyone ignores it.

They get away with this.

Because if the public online were actively discussing and responding to the direct cause, the types of plastics and the oil industry destroying our world, and the alternatives, then over time they would be forced to do this or to do it in parts, so there were more choices.

But because those are the comments ignored everywhere, they safely assume nobody gives a shit about the addressing the actual root of the illness our world is enduring, which means business as usual and just keep passing more draconian laws to cage the dummies, who never get to the direct cause, and always ignore that issue.

Notice this all the time.

Flavored plastic. I believe it, which is why I transfer all my food from plastic bags into glass jars after they arrive at home. Not that I'm eliminating the plastic already in the food, just reducing the continued absorption. Same thing with styrofoam containers, I take the food out and recycle the styrofoam. I refuse to be a plastic nut. crazy

Glass doesn't work for soda. Glass makes the fizz go away and makes soda flat. You could use paper cups though (the kind found at gas stations, etc.

I think this seems a little too much. Is there a difference between those who live in cities and those in the country, etc.

There is more plastic in China that in the US, etc.

I just don't see how this can be true. And, has that much plastic already broken down? Plastic lasts so long and has not really been used much until the very modern era. I just don't see how this is true--maybe a little.

The average person now ingests five grams of plastic each week, the equivalent of a credit card, a new report by WWF has found.

Researchers found that people are consuming up to 102,000 tiny pieces of plastic of less than 1mm - 250 grams each year - with nearly 90 per cent coming from water, both bottled and tap. Other foods with highest plastic levels include shellfish, beer and salt..

In Europe around 72 per cent of tap water now contains plastic with nearly two plastic fibres found per 500ml.

Some types of plastic carry chemicals and additives which have been shown to influence sexual function, fertility and increase the occurrence of genetic mutations and cancers.

I take sodas to go from restaurants, without ice is how we order it, and transfer it to a glass jar (small mouth) and tightened the lid. It stays fizzy after 3 weeks when I open it to drink.

I've seen this issue come up more and more lately. I get the feeling they're going to use this to explain Morgellons. It is, of course, nano tech. They're "blanketing the world in evil nano dust" remember. The internet of things, they want to read everything on the planet. These are the "tiny wires" Elon Musk speaks of regarding the brain initiative. They will interface with the chips they want to implant us all with.

I've noticed people's skin more and more lately. They can't hide this for too much longer so they need an excuse.
