The headline to this post is the actual headline used by The Mirror.

This was a horrible, horrible crime. I am not minimizing it. I cannot even really put into words how awful it is. But, did the Mirror really have to use such a headline?

Does "Mum of Two Dies After Brutal Rape" not convey enough horror? In case you don't know the words "rips her crotch out" are in the headline. I mean... Why? It's disrespectful to the victim's memory, imo.

But, it horrifies, it scares the normal people. It creates revenge fantasies or despair. Some will distance themselves from it mentally. And a few who are rapists themselves will like it.

I know The Mirror is not the finest newspaper in the UK (putting it mildly). But, it should respect its readers (or people who just see the headline as they're going about their day) more than this.

So sad...

I agree. I don't understand the people who say that killing a murderer makes you as bad as the murderer. No it doesn't. What makes the murderer so bad is that they kill innocent people for their own sick pleasure or selfish gain. Killing a murderer so that they have no chance of murdering anybody in the future is not even close to the same thing. It's a form of justice. We legally recognize that, which is why the death penalty exists in many countries.

I don't think that torturing people is right under any circumstance though, because that's not about preventing future murders or protecting society anymore. That's about bloody revenge.
