UN approved barrels for storage.

They're water/air tight to keep your stuff dry, a few of them can be connected to for a makeshift raft.

Re: How to prep for flooding?
UK has 17 flood warnings and 68 alerts!!

useful advise from website:
prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents,
turn off gas, water and electricity,
move things upstairs or to safety,
wear short trousers or pants!

Good advice from the website you listed.

There are water proof storage bins that you can get from Amazon or Wal Mart or the likes. You should put important documents in there. My sister's house, after Hurricane Katrina, had 9 feet of water and all her precious pictures were ok in one of those bins.

Like others have said further up, water is a good idea and also you should consider canned foods and a way to open them. Store these as high up as you can.

One more thing you can do is get an ax, in case you are trapped in an attic.

Lastly, when in doubt get out. If you feel like your area is proned to flooding evacuate early. Many nasty critters come out after a flood and they are no fun to battle.

Thanks! axe is added to the list! many uses! And canned foods too!

Re: How to prep for flooding?
Have insurance documents on computer & remotely accessible.
Have flood insurance.
Restock/check emergency preps every year- not when one is imminent. (Way stressful)

Large pine mulch in bags are a suitable fill in for sandbags.
Gorilla tape & water purification system. (Ex life straws)
Have supply of medicines

Make plans for your pets too.

Re: How to prep for flooding?
Move what you can to the attic, including tools to cut a hole out of the roof in case you get stuck there. Get the hell out of the flood zone when you can and do not suffer more flooding. Have dry shtf food up in the attic. Just don't lose everything and claim insurance, jeez. We all pay for the flooded, in the end. Don't know why they don't buy lighter-weight furniture so they can move stuff since they live in a flood zone. Racks to lift car three feet might be workable.
