Mental Case User ID: 77725090 United States 06/12/2019 07:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You nailed in on the first post OP. Oddly enough, the first thing you need (that's in short supply) after a flood is drinking water. After that it's situational awareness and know where higher ground is at all times. If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10485453 Ok thanks! You could use waterproof map reading covers for important documents! And make sure your flash drive is waterproof! I recommend corsair survivor range |

Drinking water & a tarp to block the sun or rain. Some warm cloths for night time would have helped. If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am! |

Good advice from the website you listed. There are water proof storage bins that you can get from Amazon or Wal Mart or the likes. You should put important documents in there. My sister's house, after Hurricane Katrina, had 9 feet of water and all her precious pictures were ok in one of those bins. Like others have said further up, water is a good idea and also you should consider canned foods and a way to open them. Store these as high up as you can. One more thing you can do is get an ax, in case you are trapped in an attic. Lastly, when in doubt get out. If you feel like your area is proned to flooding evacuate early. Many nasty critters come out after a flood and they are no fun to battle. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3029007 United States 06/12/2019 08:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Any top tips for flooding prep 101? Quoting: Noah UK 61006856 Seems it's now a global phenomenon so how do we prep? UK just starting to flood! To start you need to store clean water! No real preps. If your house floods you leave. But.. know routes and alternates to travel. Know what areas will flood. Know how to get around when the lower levels go. My house was up on stilts/piers about 3 feet. We had time but eventually it was flooded out. My sister's books were ruined. We were able to return. My mothers sewing machine went to the repair guy and he placed the whole thing in a vat of kerosene he had waiting- he healed it. Now, if you live in a flood zone, you should either be up on piers or have the garage and storage on the first floor and live above. Flooding is no joke. |

I still love the swamps. |
Mental Case User ID: 77635865 United States 06/12/2019 10:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This will apply to all emergencies...not just flooding. Fill your cars gas tank when it gets to half. Don't let your tank go below half full. That way you'll always have atleast a half a tank to escape. When an emergency is coming...the lines at the gas stations are a mile long (maybe not a mile...but you know what I mean). If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am! |
