My grandfather never wanted to talk about the war,ever.

I have spoken with many folk's in my age group, within 10 years both ways, and they ,too, say the same thing. Their grandparents never wanted to talk about the war.

I personally believe that its more than just the blood and guts of war, its because many of them knew what had happened to the Germans and were ashamed of it.

They knew the wrong enemy was defeated as they all came back home and saw things clearly for what they were.

My grandfathers served one in pacific the other in Normandy. I dated a German girl for a year and had the opportunity to visit her and her family though we weren’t together anymore. Her father took me to a shooting range and an old 90 year old veteran rode his 5 wheeler to meet “the American”. He wanted a picture of me and he hugged me saying “we were brothers again after so long”. The men at the range were taken aback when I said with tears and a stoic nature “we were never supposed to be enemies and it was all a contrived false affair”. He said it was a great closure. A humbling moment

My ex had a lot of post war programmed “German guilt”. I spent the year with her helping her shed that. I told her it was the same program of “white post civil war guilt the powers that be grind into us academically”. She understood by the end of our time together.

She is my pen pal and sends me what’s apps weekly of her brothers growing up one just graduated school. So I cobble my shit attempts at German together and send him kind words of how proud of the man he is becoming to let him know that “that American” is fond of his family beyond words.

My father's brother served in the Pacific theater. They both came back, although my father was wounded in France with shrapnel to the head and an MP40 to the leg. Said the further they got into France the worse the fighting became. One thing that I'll always remember is the time we were watching one of those old WWII movies and my father remarked that in actual combat there was hardly any talking. In fact, most of the time, he said the guys never talked. The other thing that I remember is that he said his superiors never barked at the recruits and grunts like they do in Full Metal Jacket and the other Hollyweird war films. My father said that had his superiors barked at the grunts, the grunts would have shot them on the spot. That's the kind of spirit that generation had: they took no bullshit.

Germans could have caused much more harm to Normandy landings if they had moved their panzers earlier to good positions from the reserve.

The invasion of England in the early stages of the war could have given an advantage for Germans to control the Atlantic.

How would WW III had ended if Germany would have mass produced the air superiority fighter that they cancelled.

The building of More U-boats and the relocation of those already stationed in the Norwegian sea, back into the Atlantic, in the early stages of the war 1940-1943 would have stopped any invasion of France, and more than likely would have made Britain surrender, as no goods would have made it to the Island.

As the war advanced Germany was up against huge, overwhelming forces.

Three superpowers. Soviet Union, USA and the British Commonwealth(including Canada, Australia, India etc.)

Not to mention the fact the Blitzkrieg across all of Europe and into Northern Africa, in two years, definitely made some of those mighty men, very tired. Plus, two brutally cold , harsh Russian winters played a pivotal role in their demise. Adolph should have really thought it over, but he knew time was not on their side and Bolshevism wasn't going to wait.

Russia would have beaten them, unless you change it so Germany doesn't attack Russia.

Russia did beat them. Although, it was with the help of other nations, some bad decisions and the weather.Otherwise, the world might actually be a better place than it is today.

To give the German naval power a boost it would have been crucial to get the French navy intact. The French fleet that was based in the Mediterranean was sunk by the British navy in order not to fall in German hands. Also the Italians had considerable naval power in the Mediterranean but they were not able to use them effectively.

This armada could have given Germany an advantage and win time to dominate the naval warfare at the early stages of war.
