Magnus Hirschfeld, who was Jevish and gay, was a pioneer
for rights and liberation in Berlin’s thriving LGBTQ community.

Hirschfeld’s early publications laid the groundwork for his profile to rise
until he became one of the most prominent LGBTQ activists in the world.
He even co-wrote one of the first ghey characters to appear in a film,
for 1919’s Different From the Others.

In 1919 he saw a long-cherished dream come true: on July 6,
he opened the “Institute for Sexual Science” in Berlin-Tiergarten,
the first of its kind in the world.

In 1933 the Hister Youth burned it to the ground.
