When the Hired Help took over, they didn't bother to tell us
that we are the actual and lawful heirs, the landlords of this country.

If you don't remember who you are---if they can keep you in an ignorant and debased condition,

Morning Joe on Debate: Trump ‘Big Winner in Spades,’ Donny’s ‘Absolutely Panicked’

Pity the poor liberal media. The Democrats staged a nasty debate last night, and the man who emerged the “big winner” was none other than… President Trump! So said Joe Scarborough and Donny Deutsch on today’s Morning Joe.

Willie Geist said “They tore the skin” off of Michael Bloomberg. Making matters much worse, Donny divined that Bernie Sanders is “rolling” toward the nomination, yet has “no shot” at beating Trump.

That left poor Donny upset, that “two-thirds of this country thinks we’re going in the right direction, and you have a guy who wants to burn it down? To me, I just don’t see him having any shot in a general election. And I’m panicked. I am absolutely panicked.”

So how did President Trump win a debate without even needing to participate? Because, as Scarborough observed, “nobody laid a glove on him. They were too busy tearing each other to shreds.”

The Long Shadow of World War I and America’s War on Dissent

“War is the health of the state.” So said the eerily prescient and uncompromising antiwar radical Randolph Bourne in the very midst of what Europeans called the Great War, a nihilistic conflict that eventually consumed the lives of at least 9 million soldiers, including some 50,000 Americans. He meant, ultimately, that wars – especially foreign wars – inevitably increase the punitive and regulatory power of government. He opposed what Americans commonly term the First World War on those principled grounds. Though he’d soon die a premature death, Bourne had correctly predicted the violations of civil liberties, deceptive propaganda, suppression of immigrants, vigilantism, and press restriction that would result on the home front, even as tens of thousands of American boys were slaughtered in the trenches of France.

This, the war on the free press, free speech, and dissent more generally, is the true legacy of the American war in Europe (1917–18). More disturbing, in the wake of 9/11 and Washington’s two-decade-old wars for the Greater Middle East, the dark, twisted, underbelly of World War I’s legacy has again reared its ugly head. Bipartisan, interventionist presidential administrations – unilaterally tyrannical in foreign affairs – from George W. Bush to Barrack Obama to Donald Trump have sought mammoth expansions of executive power, suppressed civil liberties, trampled on the Constitution, and waged outright war on the press.

All this was done – in 1917 and today – in the name of “patriotism,” what Oscar Wilde (perhaps apocryphally) labeled the “virtue of the vicious.” World War I produced the repressive and now-infamous Espionage and Sedition Acts, along with brutal vigilante attacks on Germans and other immigrants. The 21st century’s endless wars have engendered the equally autocratic USA PATRIOT Act, and their own reinvigorated brand of anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim abuses. It is for this reason that a brief reflection on America’s troubled – and oft-forgotten – experience on the home front during the First World War is more relevant than ever.

The war on “hyphenated” Americans

Nativism and xenophobia are as American as apple pie, and are pervasive themes in U.S. history. However, the flames of anti-immigrant sentiment reached a fever pitch in the World War I era. By then, the recent wave of new immigrants – Italians, Poles, Slavs, and J-ws – outnumbered the old-stock immigrants composed of Western and Northern Europeans. This inspired fear among native Anglo Americans. Just before the war, Henry Ford’s automotive workers on the assembly line attended a factory school for immigrants in which the first English sentence students learned was “I am a good American.”

When the president filled the power vacuum in World War I, and Congress enabled him, it became clear that the federal courts could not and would not save liberty. Repeatedly, the Supreme Court upheld both the Espionage and Sedition Acts. As Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, once a darling of Progressives, wrote in Schenck v. United States, “when a nation is at war many things that might be said in time of peace are such a hindrance to its effort that their utterance will not be endured.” With those words Holmes essentially spiked the promise of freedom in future wars. The same is true today, as the Supreme Court has failed to overturn the USA PATRIOT ACT or the much-abused Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF), or to shut down Guantanamo Bay and the Obama-escalated drone assassination program.

Modern liberalism, and the Democratic Party – as the Great War demonstrated – won’t save liberty either: in 1917, the vast majority of self-proclaimed Progressives sold out and followed “their man” Wilson into war, just as neo-Progressives sheepishly followed Obama down his path of war expansion. Democrats, Progressives, and too many (small “l”) liberals inflicted perhaps permanent damage on their once-optimistic social philosophy of progress. As such, according to David Kennedy, “the idea of the ‘people’ as good and educable, gave way to the ‘masses,’ brutal and volatile.”

The pro-war Progressive Walter Lippmann sensed this by war’s end, and proposed radical, undemocratic measures. The solution to man’s irrationality was to abandon real democracy and create an “intelligence bureau” to pursue “the common interests that very largely elude public opinion … managed only by a specialized class.” From that era, then, one may date the “substantial nagging fear of the people among modern liberals.”

It may be said, then, that the true casualty of the First World War was not just liberty, but the very “progressive” soul, the perhaps always-misplaced faith in government as a potential force for good. It is this cynical postwar world that Americans inhabit.

The Lubavitch Educational Center, a set of schools in South Florida teaching
toddlers and Talmud scholars alike, nearly went out of business in 2013.

Past due on an $8 million loan, the center was facing foreclosure on three properties,
including its main campus, an 84,020-square-foot behemoth on seven acres.
A company made up of the center’s supporters won the
foreclosure auction and gave it a long-term lease.
Among the benefactors who helped the schools make up outstanding debts
were Mordechai Korf and Uriel Tzvi Laber, partners in business and philanthropy
whose $1.4 million donation was part of a philanthropic portfolio that pumped
about $25 million into Jewish nonprofits between 2006 and 2018.

Now these two men, who represent the pinnacle of generosity to many
religious J-ws in Florida, are among the the targets of a lawsuit stemming from
a Ukrainian money-laundering scheme that calls into question the
legitimacy of years of their philanthropic contributions.

Korf and Laber owned more than $6 million worth of shares — at least 7% — in
PrivatBank, which, according to a 2018 report by the National Bank of Ukraine,
“was subjected to a large, coordinated money-laundering scheme and bank fraud”
to benefit the shareholders’ and their affiliates’ “business and personal interests.”

Ukraine nationalized PrivatBank in 2016, financing a bailout of
more than $5.5 billion to save it from collapse as a result of the fraud,
according to the NBU, which is a federal entity that regulates banks.
PrivatBank was re-privatized in 2018, and the new owners filed a civil lawsuit
in Delaware last May naming Korf and Laber as two of three U.S. “agents” who
helped the the bank’s majority shareholders, two Ukranian billionaires,
launder up to $470 billion — more than the GDP of Austria.

Korf, 47, and Laber, 48, declined through a representative to be interviewed
or answer any questions related to their businesses or charitable giving.

In Appeal to Hard Left, Bloomberg Praises Chinese Communism

At first glance, Michael Bloomberg’s campaign for the Democratic nomination
looked like the answer to a question no one asked.

Perhaps a few Democratic-primary voters were pining for a corporate-friendly centrist
who lacked Joe Biden’s appeal to nonwhite people and one-upped his baggage on
issues of racial justice, financial regulation, entitlement spending, and sexual harassment.
But while this constituency may be large enough to fully staff a
“Conscious Capitalism” panel at Davos, it seems far too small to
supply the billionaire with a plurality of Democratic delegates.

It’s now clear, however, that Bloomberg is casting a wider net.
In a recent interview with PBS — which recirculated on social media on Sunday — the former
New York mayor signaled that he intends to run in the “unrepentant Stalinist” lane
of the Democratic primary.
Asked by Firing Line’s Margaret Hoover about how the U.S. can get China and India
to be good partners in the fight against climate change, Bloomberg argued
that the Chinese Communist Party was ecologically friendly, democratically accountable,
and invulnerable to the threat of revolution.

My Shinola Sensor has been driving me crazy the last few days as it has been reacting to the news coming out of China. I have been scanning through every published medical and news report I can lay hands on, and frankly, the results don't add up.
Certain reports are consistent with infectious disease symptoms and results, so, yes, there does seem to be an infectious disease component, but then, turn around, and the next ten reports make no sense at all if this "outbreak" is caused by a biological vector.
And I do mean "no correlation" -- none, zero, zip, nada.
What those aberrant findings indicate is a non-biological source of the malady, Electromagnetic Radiation Sickness, coupled with poor air quality in China and reduced atmospheric oxygen levels.
