Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
I adopted a stray kitty a year back. Now its carrying.

It will litter soon. I plan on giving away it's kittens.

I wanna know if mommy cats feel depressed if their kittens are removed from them .

Re: Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
Cats are not like humans. They are completely different. Nevertheless, a mom cat might briefly mourn the loss of her kitten. We don't know what mourning is like for cats, but cats can get depressed and lethargic like humans. But rest assured, cats forget and move on much more quickly than we humans do.

turns out mommy cats are kinda cunts after about 5 weeks they will leave them to wonder and only coming back here and there, until she feels threatened. She will run off the other females in her own litter and the males will eventually find other females, not mom, unless being fed or they get fixed. After they are born, take them immediately to the shelter to get fixed, and ear clipped. They will call you when they are ready then you can give them away or turn them loose if need be.

Never turn a house cat loose, btw, once they are accustomed to being fed they will refuse to hunt. Trust me, its sad to watch. (someone did this to a sweet boy around here)

In feral cats after about 8-12 weeks the mother abandons her kittens

Out of sight, out of mind. That's how the animal kingdom works. For the most part anyway. Elephants have been known to literally be traumatized by the death of their parents/kin. Some animals (including cats) will care for animals that are not their own (which goes against evolutionist thinking btw, survival of the fittest...) But generally, out of sight, out of mind is the most common denominator.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

I think so. I once took these kittens to my building area without talking to the mother, and she followed us, found the building, and just stood there meowing until we gave them back. it was really human.

For most of the crazy cat lady types on this forum, cats are worth more than humans and I ain't kidding. Hell they even talk about them having souls and such, which is not even biblical. Lmao

Re: Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
no they don't

I had 2 litters once from two mothers

they killed half the litter

I had to bury 4 out of 8 kittens

I gave away the rest

Yes they do. They never forget.
But if they sense their baby is safe, and they do, they're fine with it.

It depends upon the cats temperament as well.
Not all kitty mommies are maternal

Re: Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
Depending on the cat and your relationship with it the first concern is touching her kittens without risking yourself. Either way she will move on, cats (like most other animals) don’t mourn the loss of their children the same way we do.

Re: Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
No. Domestic cats aren't Lions that need to hunt in a pack to bring down large prey.

They need to disperse and hunt away from each other or risk over killing a area.

Mother cats are hard wired to take care of their babies until they can fend for themselves and then they are hard wired to be alone.

Unreal that anyone thinks it's ok to clip a cat's ear. I think a few human ears should get clipped to see how they like it. They also seem to think it's ok to have them declawed when in fact the vet cuts off their toe to the first digit.

Please do not take your kittens to any shelter that clips their ears. Clearly they don't give a shit about cats.

Re: Do mommy cats feel sad when humans give away their kittens?
Sorry, I have to disagree with the general opinion
on your thread, OP.

It really DEPENDS on he particular pet/cat/dog, etc.
Every animal--just like people--are different.

I saw a really concerning video of one momma cat who
had her babies removed from her care very young (6 weeks.)

She went fairly bat-shit nuts and was very upset by the
separation.

You can't put every thing into a category and have it
work 100%.

cheers
