The Shining, the sequel to the shining Dr. Sleep

The Stand

New books suck, he gets political

His son's books (Joe Hill) are great, before he got political like dad.

Horns

The Fireman

Nos4a2

Sequel to Nos4a2 - Wraith

Skip the new books.

I want to start reading some Stephen King books. What would you recommend are his best works? Any books that aren't that good that I should avoid?

I wouldn't read a thing by anti-Trump King. Fuck him.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

Hands down- Salem’s Lot. Read that one, and if you don’t like it, then King is not for you.

Salem’s Lot. Start there. Read it.

The Long Walk is also good under the Bachman pseudonym.

I read many by King, but that one still haunts.

Like most authors, his best stuff is the early stuff. Try the Bachman books.
Danse Macabre is worth the read though I disagreed with much of it. His anthology Skeleton Crew had its moments. Cujo, Talisman, the Stand.

Avoid Tommyknockers at all costs unless you need firestarter.
Embrace the cognitive dissonance.
