How much did the US gooberment pay Wernher von Braun after he was captured and brought here to start NASA with his rockets?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75386015

$36,000 a year at the time he left NASA, if the NY Times is accurate.

I think he did spill the beans and our M.I.C built its own version of Die Glocke, ours crashed in Kecksburg PA.

Good Job Astro...!

Were you able to shake that YouTube Heckler off your Ass?

?

I worked at a civilian contractor / Machine-Shop a number of years back.

We were selected to fabricate a Camera Mount for this extremely complicated compound lens device.

They sent us one of the lenses and a copy of the drawings for it.

It was one of the coolest lenses I have ever seen.

Aperture was approx 10 inches, length was about 2 & 1/2 feet (estimate).

It was intended to mount on a next generation CCD image intensifier gadget (Starlight Scope). [It's old technology these days.]

NASA has the best engineers in the Nation, and possibly the best in the world!

Which puts YOU right up there with those folks!

Can you please ask around as to why they are always referred to as, 'Little green men'? It's very offensive to those of us who prefer a different color and it's also very sexist.

If an apology isn't given now and everyday for the rest of NASA's life, I get on twatter and gather the legions of other emotionally retarded Emocrats and we will begin to protest all your sponsors... I mean, aside from what we already do by not working and paying taxes. Protesting is hard work and very demanding.

APOLOGIZE for the sexist and... um, colorist remarks.

So what is the latest on planet 9? Have NASA ever located it and was it the culprit for the perturbation (tugging) on the outer planets like Uranus and Neptune? Could it have caused the axial tilt of 98 degrees of Uranus?

Still thinking of more Q's :)

The closest I get to US space hardware is reception of NOAA weather sats.

Still hasn't been found. If it is, you'll know. There are competing theories to explain the clustering of extreme trans-neptunian objects' orbits that formed the basis for evidence in favor of Planet 9.

Rumor has it that in ancient times perhaps Saturn or Jupiter was a low mass star, there are even hints that perhaps Saturn tried to ignite and blew out ejecta that formed the rings and moons around it. One larger body ejected was Venus, it hurled into the inner SS like a comet. It even had a huge tail like a comet (still has a very faint tail) and could have been responsible for the visions spoken of by ancient civilizations. What are your thoughts on it being the culprit for tales of a "fiery dragon" traveling in the heavens?
Does NASA have any pertinent info about such talk?

Comets were fiery dragons referred to by the ancients, the bunk about Saturn spitting out Venus and Venus being a comet are just bunk. Venus's ionosphere is not something you can see by eye or even in the eyepiece of a telescope.

In fact, you can find whole volumes detailing the accounts and observations of various ancient comets and their rough orbits based on those observations in this impressive set by Gary Kronk:

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44406330

Depends on the location and time of year.

In the video description you'll find a link to a website you can use to generate your own simulated sky charts counting how many Starlink satellites you can expect to have above your horizon at a given set of coordinates and time.
or will someone in the software industry find a way to eradicate the streaks these sats will leave on a long exposure?
 Quoting: AC

Your best bet is to use something like Kappa Sigma Clipping to remove the streaks with a large number of sub-exposures. Having a large number of sub exposures isn't always practical though and for it to be effective those subs need to span a good range of time as well. This shot of Atlantis in the museum looks like they let me in after hours to take a picture of it with no one else there:
[link to live.staticflickr.com (secure)]
In truth it was actually quite crowded that day. I did Kappa Sigma stacking to remove the crowd by taking dozens of exposures on a tripod over about 30 minutes or so of time. The crowd is constantly moving, so by stacking them with Kappa Sigma the only things that are retained are the things that don't move, ie, the orbiter and its surroundings.

Congrats man.

So...

What are the objects that sit in position looking like a star or planet and then suddenly start shooting off at incredible speeds and making impossible right angle turns?

Sometimes more than one will come out and they "intercept" one another and sort of zoom around the sky for a while.

All I can say is they look exactly like a star or planet, can sit still in position, and then can take off and cross the entire horizon within seconds (yes I know space does weird shit with light and it's harder gauging speed/distance from just eyesight alone especially considering we're contrasting their speed and distance by the back drop of space.

TIA.
