ALLENDALE, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A rescue group took to Facebook after experiencing the conditions at a rural animal shelter in Allendale this week.

Lakeside Animal Rescue says they went to vaccinate and heartworm test dogs at the shelter, as well as supply them with some extra food. They say they knew the conditions would be bad, but they had no idea what they were truly in for.

"Emaciated dogs living in awful deplorable conditions, border lining animal abuse," the Facebook post said.

The group says only one employee works at the shelter, and thay employee is working "tirelessly" to keep the animals alive.

The shelter, which is outdoors and has very little cover from the elements, is in desperate need of help
