Walmart adds AI-powered cameras to more than 1,000 stores to reduce checkout theft.
Walmart is working to reduce checkout theft in more than 1,000 U.S. stores with the help of cameras powered by artificial intelligence.

The retailer began investing in the surveillance program, dubbed Missed Scan Detection, several years ago in an effort to combat shrinkage — loss due to several causes including theft, scanning errors, waste and fraud, a Walmart spokeswoman told Business Insider.

"Walmart is making a true investment to ensure the safety of our customers and associates," Walmart spokeswoman LeMia Jenkins told the business site. "Over the last three years, the company has invested over half a billion dollars in an effort to prevent, reduce and deter crime in our stores and parking lots.”

Employee theft is the #1 cause of inventory shrinkage.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.

The cashiers steal for me, those bastards !!!
And the self checkout never gets what I’m scanning so I put it in the bag, I’m trained to run those machines , I’m no cashier so I fuk up all the time.
Not many people know they removed the scales. Don’t know why but it’s good

Yeah sounds legit.

I'm sure the facial recognition cameras are to prevent toothbrush theft and not for cashless society big brother agenda and cutting staffing costs. Move along folks, it's for your protection so your $1.29 toothbrush doesn't cost $1.30.

Sometimes the scanner beeps like I scanned an item but it doesn't show up. Also much of the time the item descriptions on receipts at Walmart are vague.

I don't care anymore. I'm not gonna constantly check the screen to make sure it scanned. If the fucking thing beeps it's scanned as far as I'm concerned.

Again the retards thought I was bluffing about the automated loss prevention all retailers are using.

They just made it publicly available/aware.

Lol.

no worries this won't last for very long

there will be a disproportionate frequency of the people getting caught shoplifting

the left and their cronnies in the media will cry racial profiling

walmart will not want their stores burned down over this

There is something creepy about it.

I don't GAF. Once a year up until this year, I would try to buy a few things from the garden shop, which always had a separate checkout area near the door. Not this year. They exspected people to haul baskets full of plants inside then all the way in then back out again. They have obviously cutback drastically on staff. In Nashville that makes zero sense since our local economy is boomimg, they can't even keep stores stocked here.

What was even more unbelievable was that they had three huge dumb obese black ladies that looked like they could be sisters, all waddling like penguins they were so fat, running the registers, and it was a disaster. A huge line backed up a dozen long, and they are just dragging, to old to even lift the merchandise to the scanner.

I don't wait in long lines, it just doesn't happen.

I didn't bother, I left, and that will be my last visit to Walmart, which was only once a year at the Garden shop, if ever.
