Too much internet. People like to be in control of life as much as possible. Life is messy and chaotic, so people choose their electronic device to make reality into a predictable pattern. We are overstimulated with content and not experiencing the simple magic of life without constant scrolling through a timeline.

Fear of Missing Out syndrome, everyone is afraid to unplug from the internet because they might miss something "important" but really they are afraid to face reality without constant bombardment of stimulation. Sit in a classroom of college students after the teacher says for everyone to put up their phones, and see how people nervously cope. We used to have conversations in college back in the day without the damn phones. Doesn't happen as much.

Going for a walk outside without checking a phone is a revolutionary act for most people. Everyone, including "normal" people, have become autistic shut-ins because of Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. Drugs and alcohol are accessible for everyone to numb themselves to the shit society we have inherited. Kids don't play outside as much as they used to because of videogames and parents are paranoid about child predators. Generations of kids raised in a bubble and told to be afraid of everyone in public.

Nobody trusts anyone else, because they are fed a steady diet of crime dramas on Netflix where psycho murderers put on a friendly persona, so don't trust friendly people. There is so much obsession with 80s/90s nostalgia these days, because everything in the present era sucks. Everyone is hopelessly addicted to porn and escapism entertainment, and they don't realize what that does to shape their perceptions of the world.

Culture has been dumbed down on purpose. Anyone alive long enough can see that. Anything anti-intellectual is automatically promoted by our culture. Everyone gets a trophy, even if they suck. They want mass compliance and autopilot from everyone. They don't want people questioning their situation.

Someone like me who gave up mass media entertainment years ago is seen as some kind of crazy outlier, when in reality I am one of the few sane people left.

Lines between fantasy and reality have been blurred for a long time. It's just really showing now.

Seriously, whenever I'm out in society it just seems like everyone is in some trance or under a spell or something. People are either blankly staring at their phones or they all seem not quite there. Sort of like NPCs in a video game or like dream characters. You know how you become lucid in a dream and suddenly the people around you seem just a bit "off" and not real.

Is that what is going on? Is this reality actually some big simulation that is no different from a dream except it keeps repeating endlessly until the whole thing finally ends one day?

Seriously, everyone and everything feels very strange now. Even more so than just a couple years ago. 5G or something???
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30671160

Nah mate, it's not 5G, 5G is only beingg tested in a couple small spots on earth so far.

It's just the cumulative effect of decades of social conditioning with screens everywhere. People are losing their social skills and are effectively becoming cyborgs.

I started to notice this a couple years ago, and I'M AN IT GUY for fucks sake!

Maybe people are tired of being debt slaves. Not everyone can be as oblivious as Trump tards.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72152081

Oblivious huh?

Remember that time when a bunch of Obama supporters went full retard from the fake news about Russia getting Trump elected based off of zero circumstantial evidence that they spent 3 years looking for?

There are no dumber people on this earth than liberals. Willing to believe things that are completely illogical and baseless to protect their feelings and ego, yet have the nerve to accuse everyone that uses logic of having a mental illness

Even going to the crazy lengths to claim that God supports liberals...yet Gods the one that said dont murder and dont be gay.

Liberals are the epitome of oxymorons, irony and contradictions. They are completely fucking robotic and stupid...for lack of a better description.

Excuse me, before we adjourn, what do we do if someone ignores the gun free zone and comes to school shooting kids. Sorry! Meeting adjourned!

Id hide from the sick fukz in my phone too. Trance = Away from fools.

Great thread, thanks for all the contributions. For a long time I was thinking that the social dysfunction was localized to this area where I'm living, I'm sure it's particularly bad here (NW Coast). But lately I think "it's 2019",it's not the place, it's the time, and it's probably like this everywhere.

Mindless liberalism/leftism pushed by the media and academia, ramped up by the entertainment industry, including TV, movies and music, exploited by Silicon Valley/corporations/advertising and glomed onto by local, state, federal governments and religious institutions.

A perfect storm.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear."

The cellular telephone was an incredibly dangerous invention, in terms of the mental health of the population, but smartphones and social media are far, far more pernicious. From what I've been witnessing, they mark the absolute and complete destruction of a functional society. Most people these days have turned into zombified, phone-addicted, "like" and "follower"-addicted shadows of real people. For those of us who remember what the world was like before all this shit, it's incredibly sad.

There's an endless list of reasons, take your pick:

Prescription drugs, Illegal drugs, alcohol, vaccines, chemtrails, radiation, food-intolerances, wheat, sugar, fake sugars, endless list of poisonous chemicals in food, plastics, human growth hormones, A1 dairy(acts like an opiod), flouride in the water, lithium in the water, too many wireless electronics, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, Roundup, genetically modified foods, nutritionally deficient food, demoralizing TV, trauma from the news.

I'm sure there's more reasons. Say if I missed any.

The US and then China/Japan/Korea are the worse places for this.

You are right.

The Americans are probably the worse off because on top of the zombie tech Armageddon - their health is a fucking mess.

Obesity everywhere you look - they don't seem to see it anymore.

911 attack.

Everybody thought it was another pearl harbor...but Bush did nothing & then attacked Iraq and everybody pretended it was normal or okay.

Since then everyone knows its all bs and everybody is just a selfish phoney. Its a free for all...nothing matters but you anymore. No reason to trust anyone else. Zombies wandering around with no trusted leader and few if any true friends.

Thats why even an ass like Obama or Trump seems okay or good.
Folks are desperate for a decent world and leaders but know there arent any.

911 proved it. We are orphans tossed to the curb by our parents.

irrational behavior. It truly is a medical condition that has yet to be identified. Most likely a mix of all of the current conditions as has has been mentioned on this thread.

People are going brain dead. Seriously. Something is very wrong.

There aren't any good options and people are giving up. After looking through the 9/11 thread the other day it really struck me, and it's been in the back of my mind a while, but things seem to have changed very little from 18 years ago.

Same problems with no solutions. Immigration, outsourcing, weak economy, trouble in the middle East... Similar clothing styles, similar music, commercials with xylophone and glockenspiel background music, government gridlock..

Bad salaries, bad benefits, looming ssi collapse, escalating cost of living. It's like we've been in a holding pattern.

I think people are burning out and just totally disengaging.

Almost like a "enough about you, let's get back to talking about me." kind of conversation. People are becoming self absorbed and I think that's another reason people are avoiding it too.

His white hair was all over the place, looked very stereotypical. He was a nice man.

I don't think he foresaw what a monster the smart phones would become with the added computers. His invention was for talking though.

Yea its why i refuse to go anywhere anymore..people are so tied up in ther own world its like they have been zombified

Not sure what it is,its something not good though, its like the light in peoples eyes are Gone, the inner souls of people are flamed out,a dark influence is spreading through the land..

When i do get out its weirdly not my world i grew up in,so i tend to just remember the good days and think as it used to be...

I tend to watch this show where they race to other countries, and the country's they go to all seem normal, happy and still living a normal life...

i watch people on youtube that travel, and seems like all the people are living happily,as we once did...poor as shit..but happy ....

Yea there is something going in our country and its killing us..

The young people are truly a problem,No inner light..

NO GOD=DEAD INSIDE...If i believed in No God i would want to kill myself ....i would be a satans spawn of a hell beast..

Music also influence peoples minds, look at all the dark music that people hear and play, nothing happy, nothing uplifting ...its all sad depressing and sadist,types...

Nothing for a young people to feel really good about, its all garbage..and they put this in ther souls and it translates into thier actions...

Hell i remember when my boys were younger age 2-5 wheels on the bus go round n round...lol...fun songs ...

yeah we are living in a time all you see on tv shows or movies is murders or dead people on tables..always killings...

Netflix has gone to shit since obama took over, its all gay this gay that,or witch craft shit....we cancelled ..

Yes, I've definitely noticed this for a while now. So many people seem to be in a perpetual stupor. I attribute it partially to vaccines/meds/fluoride. It's pretty disturbing.

People are also hopelessly addicted to their phones, and I wonder if the whole smartphone culture is really just one big experiment to fracture people's attention spans. (Not to mention the possible effects of 4G/5G/EMF exposure.)

These tech-zombies wander about in lala land, attached to their devices, totally oblivious to the world around them. I was at a restaurant today and took note of all the people sitting at tables and ignoring those they were with. Everyone had their nose in a phone. It was sad.
 Quoting: WonderlandAlice

I was on my break at work the other day and was just sitting there in a chair thinking like a normal human being. I swear, one of the girls I work with who is probably 19 or 20 asked me "why aren't you on your phone?" It seems like a bizarre thing now to just sit there and stare at nothing in particular and collect your thoughts. Even the act of resting your eyes is seen as strange and disturbing behavior nowadays. I look around and literally every single person is on their phone except for maybe a handful of people who are elderly. Sometimes I like to sit there and read a book and even that seems a bit surreal for many people under a certain age.

We are truly in the end times. It isn't even a matter of "how can we stop the masses from electronics addiction?" it is more like "how can we function in a society where electronics addiction is the norm and just silently resting in your thoughts is considered deviant behavior?"
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 30671160

Yes! You're so right! It's truly bizarre. They're all caught up in "social" media, but the irony is that they're losing all skills needed to socialize in the real world. There are so many days where I feel like Neo when he's walking around the Matrix. "... Many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

People don't seem to know what to do with themselves if they aren't "plugged in" to a device. I really think we're approaching the end times. Not just because of the tech addiction. The world just seems to get more insane and deviant by the day.
 Quoting: WonderlandAlice

And I'll bet that 90% of the people reading your comment see "inured" and pass it over as a spell-check substitution for "injured" :(

People, especially young people, are losing their language. They dont even want to speak out loud. The teenage daughter of one of my friends complained to her about being called on the phone. "Why don't you just text me?"

Tragic, tragic, tragic times we live in.
