That picture was taken last year. I don't allow myself to get photographed often because I know I'm not very pretty. I've probably been photographed 10 times in the past 2 decades.

But last year just before she died, my aunt (who raised us)invited us to her home because she wanted us all to be together one last time before she died of cancer.

I love that photo. It means the world to me. It means even more to me since her husband (my father) died 7 weeks ago.

There is a lot of wisdom being shared in this thread. For some reason miggy has brought out some good and some not so good in us.

I absolutely hate the term “toxic masculinity” telling males by virtue of their being born male that they are to deny themselves any feelings of masculinity for fear of being thought toxic, and telling women to fear men because all males have the propensity to poison you. I mean that’s what toxic means right.

Where’s the toxic feminity? There are many many horrible women that use their feminity to poison others! There are bad men and bad women, but to label and entire gender as toxic is stupid and irresponsible!!!! Boys now a days are told from birth penis bad, penis toxic.

Btw I am female and have lived a long enough life, met enough people to know masculinity is not toxic, my husband is 6’4” of pure Iowa farmboy, masculine to the core and one hot ass mo**** fu*****. Cynical, a couple of pages back I was brutally honest about my life. For 30 years I never considered myself a victim of anything. It was a good life- filled with hard work but also joy and happiness.

I was able to give to others and also to the communities I lived in. I believe I'm close to doing that again.

There are some of the behavior to decide for yourself.
Domestic violence is NOT ok. That includes abusive language and being demeaning to others, there is no need for that, ever.

Men use violence to teach women a lesson. That's NOT ok.

Women do tend to give in to emotions more than men. It can be a weakness, but it can also be a strength. God’s plan for our lives make a man and a woman the perfect match. Today’s society alienates us from each other.

I can understand your position. Sometimes, enough is enough, even when somebody has hit rock bottom. I responded to her because I too spent 30 years loving the wrong guy. Rebuilding my life wasn’t pretty

True, they do deserve their bottom....problem is, if people keep handing them crutches they never quite reach that bottom.

Editing to add an epiphany moment for myself.... that bottom you speak of has to sometime be reached by those with the giving hearts who allow themselves to be taken advantage of.

Bah. Eventually they all hit bottom, whether it's via a slippery slope or a slippery staircase, and all the help in the world (financial, "advice", whatever) won't change a thing. Change comes from within.

And, you are mistaken that people are being taken advantage of. Either Miggy needs help, or she doesn't. And, it's a personal choice to help...or not help. But, judging the circumstances around her needs, based on past situations, doesn't change the needs. Even if it's cyber-panhandling, she has an apparent need.

If I give the homeless guy on the corner a Twenty, I don't do a background check on him. Nor does it stop me from giving him more on other occasions, even though he's been doing it for months, or years. His demons are his own, and even if he uses that 20 to feed his demons, it's not up to me to judge.
