Fine...I have "demons" too...NOW, GIVE ME MONEY!

Thanks!

Seriously, my concerns had nothing to do with a "past". It has to do with the OBVIOUS lies being told but hey, as I said earlier you folks are all grown people, it's not my job to save you from yourselves so this time instead of just trying to stay out of this thread I'm just going to put the whole thing on my ignore. You guys have fun and for those who did at least engage in discussing this, thanks.

True, they do deserve their bottom....problem is, if people keep handing them crutches they never quite reach that bottom.

Editing to add an epiphany moment for myself.... that bottom you speak of has to sometime be reached by those with the giving hearts who allow themselves to be taken advantage of.
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

Bah. Eventually they all hit bottom, whether it's via a slippery slope or a slippery staircase, and all the help in the world (financial, "advice", whatever) won't change a thing. Change comes from within.

And, you are mistaken that people are being taken advantage of. Either Miggy needs help, or she doesn't. And, it's a personal choice to help...or not help. But, judging the circumstances around her needs, based on past situations, doesn't change the needs. Even if it's cyber-panhandling, she has an apparent need.

If I give the homeless guy on the corner a Twenty, I don't do a background check on him. Nor does it stop me from giving him more on other occasions, even though he's been doing it for months, or years. His demons are his own, and even if he uses that 20 to feed his demons, it's not up to me to judge.

This is typical of her history. I have no problem helping anyone but there comes a time when to help someone you need to quit “helping” them.

Many retirement homes and hospitals will pay for CNA training if you contract to work for them for a year after you finish school. Plus there are many 1 year courses that will keep you out of those loser minimum wage jobs. Unemployment offices will know of tons of training programs and vocational rehab. You have lots of options for bettering your employment situation. There’s always Walmart and McDonald’s not the greatest but still better than no job. Good luck!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2494046

AC, please keep in mind that Miggy is pushing 60 years old. And that many jobs which are suitable for 30 - 40 year old people become more and more physically challenging as a person gets older. Could YOU be 60 and work at McDonalds? Survive a 48-hour week on your feet at a factory? Or a hospital-type job which involves picking up and turning patients over in their beds?

Not chastising, perhaps you didn't realize Miggy's age. Or you're very young and have lots of strength and stamina and have not been smacked around by Life yet.

For a reality check: Today, right now, at this very moment, you have the MOST energy, the MOST stamina, the MOST intellectual acumen, the MOST friends and relatives who are willing/able to help you, and the MOST chance of opportunity knocking that you will have for the rest of your LIFE. And from this moment on, all of those "mosts" will begin to shrink, imperceptibly at first but more noticeably as you get older.

Not complaining, or trying to be a downer, that's just how it is. hf

I am pushing 60 myself born the same year as Miggy. Retirement homes are looking for people exactly like her. People that are mature, settled, caring. Finding dependable help is not easy in today’s world. But believe me there are tons of jobs for people our age. When was the last time you went to a Casey’s, McDonald’s, Walmart etc it’s all people our age. We are the most hired demographic there is. I imagine Oklahoma is a lot like Iowa. CNA training, is only a year or less. Home health is a great way to make a living.
Honestly aside from being disabled there’s no reason she shouldn’t be able to find a job with in a few days.

We’re those years when jobs were hard to find for everyone? I’m just really surprised by all that. I worked at a farm store 5 years ago and one of our stock “boys” ( load customers vehicles with 50lb bags of feed etc) was 84 years old. After he quit there he worked for the city mowing the parks etc!!!

Yeah maybe your not going to get those jobs that need someone young but brains, experience and dependability means everything at most jobs these days.

I worked at a local factory until my mid 50’s as a cabinet maker, lots of heavy lifting 8/10/12 hour shifts, helped at my husbands auto shop and we farm too! I still help at his shop , changing tires, oil, etc and I still work beside my husband out in the field. I am not a huge woman, 5’5” 135, nor am I masculine in anyway shape or form. I just did what I had to do to keep my family and myself with food on the table.

The jobs are there if you read Miggy’s posts clear back to 2010 this is an ongoing theme in her life. She has no trouble getting jobs she just can’t seem to keep them. I realize addiction is hard to overcome but at almost 60 it’s time she stop this nonsense.

You must have forgotten: she had to step away from this - - what has become a psychological soap opera - - in order to shower, get ready, catch a bus, and go to yet another job interview.

Sounds to me like she's trying to make her situation better, and hasn't quit trying just because she got a temporary fix for her rent. I've known people with addictions, and that's how they would have reacted, pressure off equals let's party. But she's still out there trying to get a permanent fix for the problem, to change the situation for the better.

That's what I see, anyway.

Addictions are hard to overcome. It's not made easier by spending most of your working years in an addictive environment. Such as, an alcoholic being a bartender or working in casino's or lounges.

The drama started long before 2010. If memory serves, it was shortly after she claims to have left her 6 figure income and beautiful home to care for a sick relative in Oklahoma.

There are many, many people needing help in this time. For everyone that asks, hints, or plots for money, there are probably a silent 10 who need help through no fault of their own, or not from poor choices who struggle daily to keep going.

I just donated and hope it helps Miggy. hugs

As for me, I guess it is up to everyone individually to decide whether they feel the need to help or not, whether they feel they have been wronged it the past or not. I never judge people on their opinion in matters like these, aside from unnecessary name calling and all that. That is not for me to decide.

All I know is that I have been in a similar situation many years ago, even though that was due to stupid shit I did to myself. If it wasn't for the ones that still believed in me, unconditionally, even though I proved them wrong more than once, I would not have gotten to the life that I live now. Would not have been the person that I am now. And now that I am in the position to help others myself, I will gladly pay that forward to those who struggle to make ends meet. And I have, also on GLP.

We sometimes end up in situations, where we dig a hole for ourselves that is too deep to crawl out. Some completely out of our hands, some through our own doings. It takes courage to reach out, overcoming our pride. It takes belief in ourselves and that of others to help us get back on track as much as possible. This society could use a bit more of that nowadays. Besides, help does not have to be financial. A lot of us are in the same boat when it comes to money, especially these days. Encouragement, a tap on the shoulder, a friendly word, advice, gesture can also work miracles and open our mind for a different path.

I know, there is also a lot of abuse when it comes to help. Something to do with fool me once, etc. Bush knows the exact saying. Just don't judge each other for reaching out anyway. Just do what you want to do or don't want to do.

But if you do end up in a situation like this, just don't be too stubborn, like I was, to sit and wait for the world to come down. There is help, there are solutions, if you just reach out and if all of us keep an eye open for those in need.

Apologize for the long two cents. The curse of writing.. hf

I really like this post and also appreciate the people saying be careful and don't taken get for a sucker.

Your post reminds me of the founder's reasoning on the first amendment. The protection of freedom of speech is for the most offensive and objectionable, not for what's acceptable. I think the same applies to helping someone and being in need of help. Most people in need of help are broken (long or short term) and have fucked up in some way. The extreme example of that is illustrated in the homeless problem. Yes, there are perpetual scammers out there but lots of broken people just need a combination of forms of help (prayers, therapy, money, emotional support, medication, etc) to get in a better place. Imagine if the Salvation Army refused to help those whose own actions got them into the situation of needing help. Nobody would be helped! I've seen lives changed from getting a combination of types of help and, sometimes, it's required a lot of help over a long period because people mess up (not the same as deliberate con artists) and have to pick up and begin, again. Such is life and you're right - help if you want and don't if you don't want to.

Good luck!

Not complaining, or trying to be a downer, that's just how it is. hf

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32202923

You sound a little harsh to me.

I’ve been sick for the last four years – really sick and not likely to get better. Fortunately for me I have a lot of flexibility with my job. As long as I’m able to earn what I need to I can work whatever hours work for me. But if I had a 9-to-5 job or had to work a shift with set hours I’d have been fired now. The OP has had health issues that cost her her last job. My heart goes out to her because there but for the grace of God go I.

I absolutely hate the term “toxic masculinity” telling males by virtue of their being born male that they are to deny themselves any feelings of masculinity for fear of being thought toxic, and telling women to fear men because all males have the propensity to poison you. I mean that’s what toxic means right.

Where’s the toxic feminity? There are many many horrible women that use their feminity to poison others! There are bad men and bad women, but to label and entire gender as toxic is stupid and irresponsible!!!! Boys now a days are told from birth penis bad, penis toxic.

Btw I am female and have lived a long enough life, met enough people to know masculinity is not toxic, my husband is 6’4” of pure Iowa farmboy, masculine to the core and one hot ass mo**** fu*****. For you to say masculinity is toxic is a sign of your jealousy that only soy boys find you attractive. I pity you that you’ve excused your failings by saying masculinity is toxic.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2494046

I second this. Love men, am female and feminism is cancer, just as Milo says. I've known dangerous people of both sexes. Evil doesn't have a sex.

Alcoholism usually results in losing a job, then family, then home... there is a clear pattern, then most of them die. Few of them make it. AA helps. 12 steps is a scheduled program to help people cope with alcoholism. Dependency is a huge habit to break.

Kicking someone when they are down doesn't help them reach bottom quicker. just sayin.

All true but the FIRST STEP in anyone healing as you well know is to first acknowledge they have the problem BUT at least equally important if not more so, that person MUST want help.

Did she not seek treatment for a drinking problem? I believe she did. That's admitting (and seeking help for) a problem.

Since you and some others have said Miggy does this often, can you provide links showing the number of times? Is it once before, twice or ten times? Just asking for some evidence.

Agreed. It's a good discussion with much to explore, learn and ponder.

One reason I help when I can is because I'm not a liberal. Liberals look to government (other people's money) while feigning they care. You notice the Sharia Blue shills are not on this thread.

 Quoting: NawtyBits

Fine...I have "demons" too...NOW, GIVE ME MONEY!

Thanks!

Seriously, my concerns had nothing to do with a "past". It has to do with the OBVIOUS lies being told but hey, as I said earlier you folks are all grown people, it's not my job to save you from yourselves. You guys have fun and for those who did at least engage in discussing this, thanks.
 Quoting: FeedYourHead

Okay. Is it Miggy's job loss story that you're saying is a lie? If so, could you please pose a precise question for which she can provide a precise answer? That's fair and reasonable.

Sorry about that red I gave you. I'll fix it once I can give you karma again. It was rash of me.
