I had an experience during a 12 hour surgery.

The DMT explanation can't explain away the NDE. Even if there was a drug that could perfectly replicate the NDE, what would that tell us? It would only tell us that there is a bodily trigger for the NDE, but we already knew that as death itself is a bodily trigger. So, to say that an experience is triggered by DMT does nothing to discount the content of the experience itself.

The fact remains, people frequently report veridical perception of events they could not have possibly known given the state and location of their body. That's what needs to be explained, regardless of the trigger for the event.
