I saw the guy one day reading my meter and started talking to him. He said whatever you're paying to read this meter keep paying it because you dont want a new smart meter because it picks up everything and you'll be paying more per month than the $25. I said you're just saying that to keep your job and money flow. He said that he is union and that they would find something else for him to do. They are now extending the no smart meter program for another 2 years. I don't want a smart meter ! |

Silverbird User ID: 75436794 United States 06/25/2019 10:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The smart meter can mess up your sleep pattern and make you have crazy dreams. My wife and i started having these problems 2 weeks after they put the smart meter on our house and this went on for weeks. I know this electrician and he came to my house and check the RF or radiation coming off that smart meter and i was shocked what he told me. So if your sleep patterns get off then it would be wise to put a faraday cage on it. This eliminated 90% of the RF and we retuned back to our normal sleep pattern. |

Why did they do it and what does it mean? They said there is no cost or change to my bill, so I don't get what the point of it is. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54547252 As others have noted, it means the meter reader doesn't have to come to your house any more. It also means they can monitor your usage on an hour-by-hour basis. (I have access to this information online and from it can tell when someone in our house took a shower or did laundry.) There's the potential for somewhere down the line charging different rates for different times of day: using electricity in the middle of the night could be really cheap, while using it mid-afternoon when everyone is running their air conditioner could be really expensive. |

There is a letter found somewhere online that you can write to the utility company requesting it to be uninstalled. Damn them. Yes its the same here, our driveway is over a quarter mile long and he still has to get near the house to read it. "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling. I would be more freaked out about the mass license plate readers on police cars and even private contractors, combing through streets and parking lots looking for cars registered to or associated with, people with warrants and unpaid tickets and fees and taxes. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75470405 Australia 06/25/2019 11:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They are installed for 2 reasons 1. The meter records usage by the minute so if they ever implement time of day pricing they know your usage to calculate the bill. The old meters only measured the usage not time. 2. They can also communicate with the meter and limit your usage or even turn your electricity off remotely if they ever have a need to. It is about much more than just a meter reader....... |
