I picked one who specialized in sport medicine because I had fallen and wanted to rehab so I could continue my active lifestyle. I was told by the doctor that, “At your age, we don’t do anything about that”. I am not even 65, and certainly young in most ways except chronological number. I also had an insurance benefit for Therapeutic Massage Therapy which required a doctor referral. The doctor and I had a heated conversation because he did not want to refer me because he thought it was a costly benefit and he inferred I was not worth it. In spite of his objections, he did give me the referral. The therapy has made a huge difference to me...I’m back riding my bike and walking many miles, etc. Needless to say, I switched doctors. I learned a lesson though, that ageism is well and alive in our culture, here in the U.S. I definitely feel even more responsible for my own healthcare. At the beginning of the year, a friend of mine, in her nineties, who was very active and involved in her life, was euthanized with pain meds after a fall. It’s coming to that...it’s not about quality of life, but some hypothetical “expiration date” we are living past. |

Tess, you already know the full story of the current situation of the NHS and the Conservative party free market plan of paying for treatment this is not a Scotland model nor a Labour model and don't pin it on Lefties, this model was made after austerity and brexit it is you Righties who put the old in this situation and underfunded the NHS to have this Private model in which i don't want. So please in future get your stories right and stop using Leftie and Rightie to make a sense of it and to blame it on a left government if you understood what SNP are, they are Nationalist Liberal Party Nationalist for Scotland Liberal for Centrist / Left leaning policies Central government is Conservative Party that are currently underfunding the NHS purposely and soon to force you to pay for consultations and treatments! You are joking? NHS Scotland, under the very left SNP, is in a much, much worse state than NHS England. |

The VA, right here in this country, also consider AGE in treatment. Not so here in the US for private insurance (as long as you don't have a PPO)or Medicare. My mom is 96 and has just been referred to a orthopedic oncologist for treatment. That would not have happened in England. Government run healthcare, or "Medicare for all will mean healthcare for none, is a direct quote from my highly qualified private cardiologist. Although I go to the VA for some things, I would NEVER let them operate on me. They are at least several years behind in the latest equipment (takes a long time for government contracts to get equipment to the end user). For example, our VA Medical Center didn't have a CT Scanner until 7 years ago. Couple that with the inability to get a second opinion, or have a choice on who operates and you easily get the picture. Always remember, they still call the guy/gal who finished at the bottom of their residency term, "doctor." And, you will most likely find that person at the VA. It was developed to help doctors and nurses provide quality end-of-life care, to transfer quality end-of-life care from the hospice to hospital setting. Quoting: Tess. Now discredited, the LCP was widely abused as a 'tick box exercise', with patients being casually assessed as terminal, heavily sedated, and denied water so the diagnosis became self-fulfilling. Hospitals were also provided cash incentives to achieve targets for the number of patients placed on the LCP. This is murder and while doctors & nurses think they get away with it, they will answer to God. Each one will answer for their body count. Leftists are evil incarnate. Bad or missing keyboard. Not peace work but earn their money by the actual work they do . So 2 breaks £20 ...just joking about the price ..They do not have to provide the hospital ,the drugs .It is just their skills .They have it easy ...The ancient Sumerian doctors were not paid if the patient died . They are entitled and get too much money ... Never ,never pay dentists this way ...They will drill good tech to get the money ..I know this they tried to do this to one or my children when they were under 10 . I became agitated as I could not see a hole in the tooth stopped dentists and they never had a filling .. Any way back to the doctors .They should all have to take out personal insurance for their foul ups . The incompetent once would be triggered by the insurance system and would never gat any more insurance .It would also save the NHS paying out for hopeless doctors . These doctors should be fined personally for cruelty . This bad attitude to the elders who contributed to their free education is very ,very sad . I would like to remind any medics here or any otheryoung people who are for this ... Everyone ages .We should be kind to the poor ,the sick and the old ... If you do not agree remember that if this goes the way the abortion thing went it is you guys who will be put down when you are sixty ..Not the oldies today . Some big hearted person should bring a case against the actual doctors who did this to the elderly lady ... I am actually uncertain whether the doctors swear the hypocritical oath like the oldie doctors did when they qualified ...this has failed the hypocratic oath ... How about fining the doctors personally £10,000 each ..This would most probably fix the problem .. The thing is we need to have doctors with a vocation to heal ..not to get rich ..though good doctors with a vocation are worth the money .Physics should be one of the A levels as it helps problem solving ..aka diagnosis . French Alevel for a pretty girl is just not good enough ... Maybe we should have robots choose medical students ...? They went through a patch of not choosing students who would have been fine as doctors ...Well they are basically idiots ...the people running the system not the candidates .Here they also do not require the new doctors to work here for a while and the go off to Canada,Australia and America .I knew new doctors who did this . We are noe short of doctors ...suprise ,suprise ...Not . |

But when you break anything, there are two options: let it heal on its own with pain meds or have surgery. Folks over a certain age and/or in certain health are usually counseled about the risks of surgery (anesthesia) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77721578 What did this lady want? This articles never says anywhere she expected/demanded surgery so I think she was asked whether she wanted surgery and she probably declined, therefore, there was nothing doctors could do (and she took that as doctors refused to see her) She did get a splint so...someone did see here after all. I think this story is being exaggerated. I speak from first-hand experience. I fell off my bike (age 57) and broke my wrist in 3 places. I was asked if I wanted corrective surgery. I said no. They splinted me up, gave me pain meds and I went home. So I think something similar might've happened here too. How is your wrist functioning now? My wrist never healed properly. My problem was my hip. I couldn't swing it over the seat of bike, so I took the fall along with the bike. I didn't want wrist surgery before hip surgery so I opted against it. Got my hip done and went home next morning. Hip is perfect. Wrist is wonky though (but....so is life :) PS The OP story sounds bogus. wrist/hands are the worst as are too complex even surgeries in specialized centers fail continuosly. |
