i would have loved to study some fruity feel good bullshit ~ but realized spending 200k to get a job that pays 20k doesn't work.

So I battled out an engineering degree. It sucked. i partied less than i wanted to.

and paid off my loans ahead of schedule.

CHOICES.

or take my brother who went into the trades. got his hands dirty, his balls busted - but he now makes $150,000 a year - no loans needed. Yeah he works with his hands and gets dirty ~ snowflakes need not apply there either.

I'm 58 now....I went to Brooklyn Tech HS.....classes included Metal shop, Industrial Design, Patternmaking, mechanical drawing, and foundry.....I was a self employed fabricator....

The rest of us would rather our parents had taken us out in the field and shot us in the head before sending us to that ...place.

There is no hell more complete than that college at that time. Oddly enough, my very intelligent quite sane cousin just dropped out of the same... place... and won't talk about what, exactly, happened to him

Public universities didn't cost 250,000 in 1983-1987. The system is broken. The kids were sold a fraudulent bill of goods.

The university system is being used to sell out the United States, flip demographics, and give away an American birthright to foreigners.

Scrump, I want you to consider one thing before you castigate these educated idiots too awful much. Foremost, we've been pushing "go to college" for the last 30 years. And for most of that time, we've been telling people "get a degree, any degree!"

Do I regret my degrees? Nope. Chemistry, pretty much useless without a PhD. Paramedic and Fire Science, nope. Had a good career. AAS in electronics, nope. Made money with that too. Carpentry and Electric in high school. Nope. Still make money with those.

Moreover, consider the vo-techs. They've been gutted! Carved up and destroyed. And we've got little con artists like that kid on "engineered truth" on Youtube telling ever kid in America, "STEM bad, digital marketing make you rich! You wan' be rich like me! Surround by big titties! Forget engineering!"

So, I'll be the first to say, no kid in the last five to eight years has much of an excuse if they chose "Gender-Ethno-Studies" but the truth is, they're still lead down the primrose path by public educators and expected to make sound career decisions at eighteen.

Granted, I was a paramedic at 22, but I sure wasn't ready for that burden. That said, I agree with you, with caveats. They have no skills because we don't teach them.

i've been working since i was out of high school and i can't tell you how many people i've seen hired in at low positions that are "college educated" at my work place. and no, they aren't any more skilled or better at anything than any one else. sometimes much lazier to be honest.

Engineers are being replaced by pajeets. Most in stem degrees are making about 30k. I make more than most of the ones I know that actually finished their degrees and excluding those that had capital from elsewhere hate their jobs. Theres no money in stem anymore, this article sounds like it was written to shill stem

This is true. I saw this happening when I graduated college in 1987 with a BSEE degree. Two year degree would be like a HS diploma and my 4 year degree would be like a 2 year degree. Then you'd have to do graduate work in order for your diploma to mean anything...

I did not graduate at the top of my class. Imagine going to school to become a doctor and you graduate with a C+. Who the hell is going to hire you with that kind of grade...lol

The degree did open up a lot of doors into management and the Biomedical Field. It was very rewarding but very stressful too...

In today's society I would recommend a trade school or apprenticeship in a trade where you have the option to become your own boss...

One of the biggest problems in the United States is that almost all universities use freshman Algebra/Trigonometry to "weed out" students. They actually discourage young bright minds from going into engineering/sciences and encourage sociology/humanities type degrees. They make these freshmen Algebra/Trig courses artificially hard. They have been doing this for at least 50 years and it has literally hurt the American economy!

I fought through a year of that BS but was able to get a science degree. When I took later, supposedly harder, Calculus/Differential Equation courses I got A's and B's. But I had to bust my but and repeat courses just get C's in the Algebra/Trig courses.

This needs to stop because we need to encourage students to get into engineering science degrees...not discourage them.

Same here. How are you going to feel when the Bernie bros who racked up 100k in debt spending years partying, then getting a worthless degree, end up vindicated by loan forgiveness? Especially when you consider that the "loan" came out of your taxes?

You worked through college while they partied, then worked productively to pay taxes to compensate them for partying.

I was admitted to a prestigious engineering school, but I chose to go to the cheap in state university. At the time, I foolishly thought that cost mattered. Now I'm stuck debt free with an in state degree.

I busted my ass working three jobs to get a bachelors degree at a state university. Biggest distraction for me was the little shits that I went to college with whose parents paid for every goddamn thing. Not one of them had a job. I had three-fucking three jobs! And I still made decent grades. But as far as the college life…… I never got to experience any of it. I have a decent job… A decent life-but there are regrets. Of course there is regrettable things that I had no control over and things that I couldn’t change. Did it make me a better person? I guess… Maybe… Probably. But if I had it to do over again I probably would’ve taken out more loans so I could’ve taken more breaks and actually partied a little. I would have definitely majored in something different.

Started off in a 2 year State College and graduated with an Associate in Science Degree. Back then we had to take electives such as gym courses and some other liberal arts courses. What a waste of time and money...

Imagine your gym courses as Golfing, Bowling, Horseback Riding and my elective class was a Paranormal/UFO class...lol
