An explanation of the US debt.
Most people are clueless about what 30 trillion is.

As such to most the US debt situation does not seem real.

I thought I would explain things simply.

30 trillion is 30 thousand billion.

The US military budget is around 700 billion yearly.

The Russians built the infrastructure at Sochi for the Olympics for roughly 55 billion, you can build a city for this sum.coin

(and many would agree that it could have been done for half that figure)

So if the USA stopped spending the 700 billion yearly on its military and scrounged up another measly 300 billion it would take 30,O00 years to pay off the debt without compounding intrest.

That is all.

Dirty little secret...

It was never meant to be paid off.

It was meant to give LEVERAGE (read: POLITICAL POWER) to private banking interests over the U.S. government. Mission accomplished.

30 trillion divided by 700 billion is 42.857. Or, to use your example of scrounging up and extra 300 billion each year for a total of one trillion, is obviously a 30 year repayment without interest. Point taken about insanely high debt figures but let's get our hypothetical math right.
