The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled certain Medtronic MiniMed insulin pumps due to potential risk of them being hacked, the agency said today.

The recalled pumps are Medtronic's MiniMed 508 insulin pump and MiniMed Paradigm series insulin pumps. The FDA recommends that patients using these models switch their insulin pump to models that are better equipped to protect against these potential risks.

Insulin has been used to murder people.
Vitamin K helps insulin overdose.
Sugary drinks help too if anyone almost gets whacked by sneaky insulin assassin's.

Why in the world do insulin pumps need to be connected to the internet ?

I can see the occasional connection via usb to a computer for software updates, but for it to have a network connection or more likely a WiFi radio that allows it to be connected directly to the internet is absurd.

Out of curiosity I did some reading on this problematic model and it isn’t connected to the internet however it does allow some form of wireless connection that is apparently unsecured. Strange

A major reason I will not use them…. they don’t get to affect my diabetes in this manner…
