Grow your own or rely on others and starve. No reason for moaning and complaining.

Growing food is very easy really. Whats wrong with you all?

Seeds are cheap and land covers a third of the planet. Stop being lazy. You don't have to buy any land. Just find some and plant seeds. If its quite hidden, you have no issues. If not, most people wont know whats growing anyway. People in the US especially, don't have a clue.

Get growing , its not rocket science. Most countries outside the US it is normal. In the US people get into trouble for growing veg in their own gardens....land of the free my arse. Unheard of in every other country on earth. Nobody would tolerate that BS. WHat a fucking joke that place is.

uh. maybe you need a reality check as well.

#1, growing isn't easy. I've done it for years and it is like rocket science and it requires a hell of a lot of patience to get good yields. From fertilizers, weather, bugs, plant virus'...hell< I thought it was easy too, right up until I started about 8 yrs. ago.

also, how much ground or sq ft of growing beds do you think you need to supply 2 people with fresh vegetables for a year? We're talking for a year, not just the few months when you are harvesting!

apartment dwellers? uh. no can do.
cities? many cities outlaw any visible gardening.

in the depression, the bulk of the people lived in what we now call 'rural' areas. Now.. something like 90% of the U.S. pop live in cities.

what's wrong with you for not understanding this?

What a shame to have you make good points and spend the rest of your post being insulting and offensive.
 Quoting: Pooka

When you let people have that much control over you a lot of innocent people could go hungry. Most of the world know what goes on over there so it is alarming you guys still claim to be the land of the free. Rather than get offended, do something about it. Im on your side. We should all be able to grow food on our own land. Every country allows this apart from places in the US. People have been fined lots of money just for growing veg on their property. WHat a shame, so sad.

LOL. you're a joke. You provoked it, you created the problem, it had nothing to do with them taking offense. Yes, people have become dumbed down as well becoming dependent . Some do choose to do differently.

Just because you get annoyed, doesn't mean that the rest of your point of view is valid. get it? I doubt it.

I grow also. Have been for 20 years. I have fruit trees, olive trees and veg plots. Once the soil is prepped, it is easy. Its all about the soil. Like I said, find the right land and you can grow, you don't have to own it. Its called guerrilla gardening....its a thing all over the world. The plants you grow add nutrients to the soils, different veggies complement each other when grown side by side, with the correct rotation the soil and bugs can be controlled very easily. Its just takes a few hours of research.

I also propagate wild foods in the woodland next to my home. We have wild plum trees, hazelnut trees, chestnut trees, cabbages and other greens....all of which are wild but with a little tlc spread rapidly and increase wildlife populations at the same time.

Growing IS easy, just takes a little research and elbow grease.

Vertical planting can produce pounds of foods in restricted places of just a few metres squared. Google the methods.

Just make sure you don't use F!, hybrid or GM seeds. Only natural heirloom seeds and you should not have any issues for years to come. If you get the mainstream packaged seeds you will have issues. They are pointless as they wont last more than a couple of years. The yields are bad.

Hold on, you accuse me of being insulting and then tell me Im a joke. I admit I have social issues due to autism but you have been a little hypocritical here. I would delete my offending posts if I could. Like I said, I meant no offence and assumed you guys in the US would be more annoyed with the situation than I am as it affects you directly. I just feel sorry for the people who cannot grow foods over there, I think it is very wrong and it upsets me that people would put restrictions on others like that.
I will take these posts to my therapist tomorrow. See what she says and advise me on where I went wrong. I really struggle trying to get my points across to others. I honestly don't have any bad intentions at all. I wish you could see that. I am good at gardening though. lol.

I want in on this and i totally agree with both of you, That said I live in the desert So Cal it is going to be 100+d f for the next 5 months. My water bill is $350 a month without a garden or grass only my trees watered. So a dirt garden is not feasible too much waste. I do have some dirt garden squash melons that take a ton of room.

Indoor Hydroponic flood and drain. On a 2ft by 4ft set of shelves
I can sprout about a 100 Lbs in hydroponic a week on shelves indoor.
Grow leafy greens ect in the ac cooled house one 2x4 tray will grow 16 -25 lettuce plants in different stages of growth

Outdoor hydroponics i have grown everything dam near. I must have shade cloth this time of the year and the right plants for the heat
Learn when to plant what and companion plants like corn will shade the squash and support the tomatoes or cucs. The water reservoir i put under ground to help keep it cool plants like 65d f root zone.
Too many mosquitoes right now, it is shut down if running i use a small amount of 29% hydrogen peroxide in the reservoir to kill any bugs in the water and in the hydroten clay balls

I think everyone should set up a porch hydro set up, You can get the equipment fairly cheap from failed weed growers like 10 cents on the dollar. keep it small one or two 4ftx8ft trays they are only 32 sq ft each but you can put a hundred plants in it, I wouldn't and keep temporary as you will make it better and change everything.

Made it to the discount grocery today, and fortunately they are well-stocked with whatever they have. I didn't think to check if they have any packaged potato products like instant mashed potatoes - and I am fascinated by their lack in all the Walmarts we are hearing about.

What do you people think is the reason for all potato products being purchased?

This grocery has been having great sales on chicken parts - I've repackaged and put away two large pkgs of skinless, boneless chicken breasts, and today bought chicken drumsticks for .99 per lb. $3.88 for seven meals. Should have gotten a second package!

People, keep checking stores and telling us what you find, and what you do not find.
 Quoting: Pooka

I went to my local Walmart last week - shortage signs on canned goods.

I went to my local ALDI's today, PACKED and canned veggies on sale for 48 cents a can.

crazy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4436547

^THIS

again, another clue that something 'else' is going on.

Is Walmart and a few others supplying food to dumbs and the immigrant tent cities at the border?

Canned foods would be the item for both those locations.

The 'shortage' is limited to certain grocers.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76869839

I agree, something odd with it being walmart. I went to Costco and no shortages there

I can see where you're coming from. A lot of people tend to spread disinformation about what you need to grow food. My friend grows a crazy amount of food on less than 1/4 acre with her gardens and meat rabbits. Although she is not self sufficient she does A LOT on very little. Most say it's not enough land but she supplies well over half her own food and still has more yard left to convert to garden space.

I agree, something odd with it being walmart. I went to Costco and no shortages there

It would probably be that Walmart has the largest strain on their supply. Costco and Sam's Club have a much more limited number of shoppers.

I love gardening as well. I have alot to learn still. I'm a big fan of back to Eden gardening. Do you have problems with squash vine borers where you're at?

What a shame to have you make good points and spend the rest of your post being insulting and offensive.

Sorry but it annoys me that a society would happily accept being told what they can and cannot grow in their own gardens. I hope you can understand how insane that is for the rest of the planet to comprehend. I don't mean to be insulting, just telling it the way it is. Sorry if you took offence.

I am not sure where you are getting your info from, Italy... here in the USA, we are growing whatever we want. Are you thinking of subdivisions with tiny yards and restrictions?

Oh, BTW, how are those 'purchase authorizations' working out for you gun owners? That's what I thought.

Sorry, but it annoys me that a society would happily accept being told they cannot defend themselves.

FINISHED BUTCHERING A HOG TODAY- MAKING HOMEMADE POTSTICKERS FOR DINNER, ONLY THING THAT ISN'T FROM THE FARM IS THE FLOUR-AND HARVESTED A COUPLE OF BUSHELS OF ENGLISH PEAS TO SHELL TONIGHT.

AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OF LEARNING HOW TO GET OFF THE CONSUMER TIT WE'VE GOTTEN CLOSE TO ALL OF OUR NEEDS EITHER THROUGH WHAT WE PRODUCE HERE OR TRADE WITH OTHER HOMESTEADERS WHO LIVE ELSEWHERE AND PRODUCE STUFF WE DON'T.

IT'S OBSCENE THAT ADULT HUMAN BEINGS ARE 100% DEPENDENT ON OTHER PEOPLE FOR THEIR FOOD BUT WORSE THAN THAT IT CREATES A DEPENDENCE THAT'S HARD TO GET OUT FROM UNDER.

Congratulations on all your food accomplishments! You are near independence, for sure!

Please try to use lower case letters except for starting sentences and capitalizing proper nouns. Writing in all caps is consider YELLING on the internet and nobody likes to be yelled at. Takes away all the importance of your post.

This may seem a bit off topic but I thought I would toss it out there...

I was looking for the best woods to make a bow drill from for starting a fire & found...

dry yucca stalks, cottonwood, cedar, aspen, willow. and basswood.

The best is soft, non-resinous wood...so pine wont work.
If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am!
